TBH do they? I mean it makes sense when you know have the power to lead people out of a disaster and keep the confidence to know you'll get out alive and protect them. But do they elect themselves as leaders? From the popular sovereignty of the people of the people they lead because they say they should be the leader? Or because no one else would say it but they know they have the power to lead and they elect themselves and later prove themselves worthy of that self-elcetion? I really questioned this after a long time of looking over at our city's police department and just wondering "Are these cops leaders in a sense because they were chosen or because they knew what they could do?".

Think about this in a disaster situation. People will automatically take charge based on their previous roles (cop, boss, some sort of authority figure) and people automatically think they will know what to do. Sometimes true, sometimes not. In a disaster situation they may not have the best plans.

Then you have people who step up and start taking charge because they think they know best. Not always. It's all ego based and they just want to be the hero. I think leaders like this who elect themselves are just full of ego and will end up getting every one else killed.

Then there are people that quietly sit by and allow others to lead. After a while, those self elected leaders begin to fail and the quiet person sometimes find that people start coming to them because they have been observant, are more knowledgable, etc and have had some good ideas.

A capricorn will be more of the quiet leader. They won't step up until they have to or others expect them to or no one else will. Cap reluctantly thinks someone has to do it, might as well be me.

Also in a disaster situation, people react differently. Just because someone had an authoritative role previous the disaster, doesn't mean they are going to be the best leader. Different aspects of someone's personality kicks in. Strong people freeze, calm people develop hysteria, calm people panic, decisive people become indecisive...quiet people step up and take charge, indecisive people make solid decisions....
