Do you always have to have the latest phone?

I don't but I know people who have waited outside overnight for a new phone release. My cell phone is rather old and outdated but it's in great shape and very functional. My phone is the Samsung Galaxy S3. Lol

I have a Note 2 and am quite happy with it. I had a hard time spending $ 350 for a f'in phone, and can't even try to justify spending $ 750 when I've only had this one for 3 years.

I have iPhone 5G.

I would only upgrade to SE or 5S tbh

I like the size and it's very comfortable. I've had it since 2014 or 2015.

I can't justify spending that kind of money a phone either. I'll use mine until it dies. lol

No.

I'd rather spend my money on food or travelling. I'll never get other people's obsession over new gadgets but that's just me.

I'm the same way and I too don't understand the obsession. However the phone companies understand it and they get these people whipped into a frenzy over their latest release.
No. People are brainwashed idiots like this.

It's a sad day when you meet people who think they HAVE to upgrade, whether it's because the new thing is out, or their contract obligation to the current phone has lapsed. I used to always let that period lapse because I'd be perfectly happy with what I had and I met people who were baffled that they thought they HAD to upgrade their phones when that period was over.

Now, ESPECIALLY with Apple, those iphones are just barely making any significant upgrades and people still froth at the mouth over it, and for what? Color? lolz.

Unfortunately, a lot of other companies are doing similar things, but at least their specs are getting better and it's not something stupid like color, or maybe a camera with 3 more megapixels, or new icons available on the new version.

I haven't been tied to a contract for years though. Once I realized I was able to get a phone I'd wanted (prepaid with the carrier) on my own, for better pricing than what the carrier offered, I did that. And then came the jump to Google phones and I haven't had to do a contract since. Whenever I get a new phone, I buy it on my own, pop in to the store, get a new sim card (the last two required it since they went from micro sim, to nano sim), and was on my way.

...my carrier actually has to get in touch with me to let me know that all these plans I was grandfathered into are ones that are being modified because now they're obsolete. It's always worked in my favor so hooray haha.

"Erm, well, we're changing how we structure plans. Yours is old as eff, so this is how it's changing. Less money for you and more features." Score!
I was like that when I was 13 or so. Now I wish I could go with an old school keypad phone. But my work requires to be online throughout the day, so I have to stick with a smartphone. iPhone 5 and I'm tired of this butter.

I heart me some gadgets, but they're usually spread out quite a bit because I do my research and I get whatever tech toy it is and they usually last me quite awhile before I get an inkling for a new one.

What I do not get are the people who do get them as obsessively as you mentioned. Unless there was some serious treetrunkery that happened with your phone/tablet/whatever, which happens because it's gotten to the point where some updates treetrunk up smart devices, or it turns out the manufacturer overlooked a seriously stunting flaw in hardware, I don't see the need to upgrade every 6-7 months.

It's just modern day keeping up with the Jonses, really.

Hell, T-Mobile offers that jump program which is like, what, 3 times a year to change phones?

...WHY? Aside from disastrous circumstances, why???

I totally get being that way at 13 since we're still very impressionable and follow the crowd more. My job requires me to be able to access online as well. I love being able to take a pic and send it to a contractor for a repair quote.

I've never owned an Apple product.

Samsung makes good butter. That's all I had up until 3-4 years ago.

I got away from them because I was tired of bloatware though, hence my jump to Google phones.

But if I were to get away from Google phones, Samsung would probably be what I'd get. They are tough as butter.
