Protesters tread on American flag and Air Force veteran Michelle Manhart tries to take away flag from protesters demonstrating against racism. And she gets arrested.

Do you think it's right to tread on the flag in protest? Please let me hear your opinions on this.

Don't agree with it, but it is free speech.
Stepping on the flag does put the lie to the prostesters motives (supposedly protesting against racism). They certainly are not helping their cause, I suspect, in the mind of the average American.

I heard in other countries that stepping on your nation's flag can get you arrested or even executed.

People wear the flag on their thongs. I'm all pro protestor rights. I would tread on it, too.

I can only say. Have fun getting beat by angry veterans who fought for your freedom and the freedom of others. If not for them we'd be speaking German or Japanese right about now, and trust me neither of them would've been too kind to us. IMO that's protesting, that's disrespect.

As far as I'm concerned. Denying people their basic rights is much more disrespectful. My father was a veteran and one of my sister's is currently in the military. Spare me the old-fashioned fear mongering "we'd be speaking Japanese" tactic.

Well it' true. We would be. Go to China or Singapore and try to talk about you're right there. Believe me we have it better than they do. You'd be permanently silenced if you did try to speak your mind about your rights very quickly. If not silenced, jailed. No one's being denied rights in the video. They're protesting racism but it goes a little too far when you tread on the flag. You basically dissed everyone that fought and died for this country from 1776 up until now.

Both cases are completely independent of each other. Just because someone is anti-racism or anti-war does NOT make them "traitors" or "less American." And Hiroshima and Nagasaki are two of America's biggest and utter disgraces.

It had to be done. It was either that or Operation Olympus. Which would be the mainland invasion of Japan. In the end 1 million plus American troops would die trying to take a stronghold like that and millions more Japanese too. Do how fanatical and driven the Japanese were? They believed we were Demons and they encouraged the suicide of their people in the incident if towns or cities were captured by Americans. That'd be millions more Japanese dead than Americans. And thus the Baby Boomer generation would've cut back and WWII would've lasted another 1 or 2 years.

So arrogant to try and say we did the Japanese a favor by nuking them.

Yeah. And we wonder why the world hates us and sees our government for the demons they are. We WILL get ours. Just like all humans have to answer for their deeds.

I reiterate: people have the right to protest and anyone who interferes with that right is disgracing the American constitution and its Rights.

Never said that. I said it had to be done for less people to die than say it would in Operation Olympus. And secondly, we couldn't give a fuck less how they see us. They say that because they're scared of us because they know our power and what we could do, but we don't do it out of respect for them. Why not say the rest of the world be scared of China and Russia because they're sitting on a bigger nuclear stockpile than us? Russia's probably going to invade Ukraine and China has one large ass military. But yet, China's not scared of us, they respect us and vice versa so they won't bad mouth us and we won't bad mouth them. Eventually we all get ours no reason to stick it your own country. If you hate it here then leave.

Leave Japan
out of your
rants.past
is the past.

Millions of
people are
learning my
language and
breaking neck
to come to my
home country.

How could you all
be overtaken back
then? Last time i
checked, you put
my people in the
detainment camps
and treated them
wrong due to what
was happening over
the sea.

Damn americans.
You can never
be patriotic
without insults
to other people
and countries.

Hinomaru

Unprovoked attack at Pearl Harbor by Imperial Japan....

Why are you making topic from flag treading and respect for veterans to about my knowledge of politics? What know is for me to know and for you to find out on your own

because you aren't knowledgeable about the subject and it's obvious to anyone who knows even a minimal amount, so i ask again- why are you pretending to have any clue on the matter? you're just making the rest of us (americans) look bad, and stupid.

just read what tachi wrote if you don't believe me.

I'm already knowledgble about what happened from Japan during WWII. We cut off trade with them while the were invading SE Asia and we took on an isolationist policy. We wanted nothing to do with them considering they were trying to take over SE Asia at the time. They were pissed and they attacked Pearl Harbor And the rest is history

people like you call
others victims because
you do not want to
acknowledge truth of
the evil in your self.

unprovoked my ass.
if you knew anything
regarding how pearl
harbor really went
you wouldnt be so
quick to speak your
nonsense. if anything
you provoked us so
that we could attack.

you can trust what your
government tells you,
but of course you never
will admit that it neglects
letting the people know
the real truth.

your president wanted to
fight us so badly because
he knew it would get the
u.s.a into a war. and he
knew as well when and where
we would strike. he neglected
to tell you citizens so it
would look like a surprise.

he also failed at the peace
treaties japan repeatedly
implored him about. did we
want war with usa? no. did
we have to war? yes. he
froze japanese resources ad
refused to hear us out on any
peace talks. what do you do
when someone has a hand tightly
around your neck? what do you do
when your livelihood is at stake.
you fight. the united states will
go very low to start and win at
war, but how often will it be
honest with its own citizens
about what's really going on?

you're the victims of secrecy in
your own government when everyone
else in the world knows the truth
about your government. blind to
being patriotic. blind to the evil
and real agenda of your government.

and what makes you or any other country's government any better? Hell let everyone see their evil in themselves

naturally, i speak
for my country but
never did i say we
were better, sn1pe.
that's the problem
with the attitudes.
people want to think
that someone is trying
to be 'better'. your
hostility is blinding
your understanding.

the japanese got rid
of our military and
we promised to live in
peace among ourselves
and other countries.
we may fight only if
we absolutely need to.
we are not imperial.

in fact, japan still is
apologizing to those the
country has wronged.i do
no understand why there
is still hatred and hurt
feelings because of old
things. i was not there.
you were not there. our
countries and the leaders
of old did what they did.
they are long gone, so why
are we fighting over it?

i was not born in imperial
japan. so do not attack me
for calling out a wrong.
it is not personal towards
any of you. you did not drop
the bombs. shape up in the
head. im just saying the idea
that japan was the bad guy in
all of this is wrong and out
of date.

you're right. I'm sorry I know you were not born in Imperial Japan. I'm just pointing out that Japan did a lot of wrongs too. I feel the only peace were going to happen was if they left SE Asia alone and not try to annex them. I'll admit we've done wrongs too. We took lands from Native Americans and So did most of colonial Europe. We drove them off their land and destroyed them basically. But I really didn't mean to offend you. I should a used just "any" language, language anonymoua and not bring your country into this. Sorry.

The POTUS is also a symbol representative of the United States.

That didn't stop people from calling Obama a "monkey" and a "Magic Negro" and making derogatory remarks about his family.

Are those same flag wavers insisting it's wrong to burn a flag going to exhibit the same indignation that our leader is being disparaged?

No?

That right is protected under "Freedom of Speech"?

Hmmmm......

yeah I see your point there. Freedom of Speech is there but it doesn't stop other people from thinking that action or what's been said is disrespectful. By what they're about. I mean someone akin to not caring about how many people died for this country and to protect them and their rights. And they just step on the flag like 238 years of progress meant nothing to them?

Everytime someone gets pissed the flag is getting burned and goes off and gets into a fight it just plays right into the hands of the protesters.

While odious, the act of burning a flag is protected as "free speech".

Walk away and deny them the attention they seek. Period.

Precisely. I speak about a protestor's right to free speech and OP brings up Japan and China. Talk about derailing.

ah shut up. We're past that. Just because its available due to our freedom of speech doesn't mean its the right thing to do. Its just disrespectful and tbh. I probably would punch the asshole who treaded on it. One mans right won't be right for the rest

Those men and women died precisely for the right to do something like burn the flag.

They died so we could live in a country where you CAN burn a flag or talk shit about the POTUS without getting thrown in jail or executed. Our country was founded on rebelling against an oppressive government that stifled free speech.

We don't want to go back to that.

Yes, flag burning sucks. Yes, the Westboro Baptist Church marching outside soldier's funerals is shitty as fuck.

But I'd rather live where I could (if I was a big enough asshole) do those things than live in a country where I fear government reprisal for speaking my mind.

When you put it like that it a actually makes a lot of sense. So I could say my idea of protecting the dignity of the dead comes from preserving them and not wanting them to be disrespected in any way. I see what you mean now. But I don't know if I could ever change the way I feel towards the asses who treaded the flag

Protesting racism by treading the American flag has nothing to do with the dead. Stop with the emotional argument.

I know, but it just feels like they're dissing my Grandfather and Great Uncle. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to make this about me because I still wanna hear opinions on this. But when it comes to me, it feels like an insult to family. Jesus, I think this place is getting to me, I used logic in everything I said at one time but now I feel like it's all breaking down.

Well, I don't see their actions as dissing my father or sister. It's their right and we cannot pick and choose when people's rights deserve to be upheld based on how we react to them emotionally.

Regardless of this topic, I offer you a hug as one human to another. *hugs*
