Alright, me and Cowpuncher had this argument on the man cave about real men using guns and swords. Now I firmly believe when it comes to fighting for your life there is no such thing as honor, the only unfair fight is the fight that you lose. Now I would like CP to come here and give me his two cents on swords as well as gun usage. I've been using guns since I was 7 and I know the concentration and the skill and the patience that comes along with having to use guns. I remember having to be as patient and calm as possible when firing any gun. To manage recoil and to line my shot up correctly as to be accurate. Now I own 8 guns, I've had about 13 years worth of training for use in pistols and rifles. That 10 gauge 1887- That I will probably never manage. The recoil from that damn thing blew me off my feet and sent me flying after I shot it on the range. I could manage a 12 gauge, but a 10 gauge is something entirely new for me. As for swords, the closest I could ever get to a sword without exactly getting to a sword was owning a machete. While I do believe swords today aren't as effective as guns, they do still hold usage in personal defense and war. I see their best usage at close quarters combat for there in some areas guns would not be that useful. It's why when troops in Iraq and Afghanistan went into close quarters they were noted for using shotguns and CQC attachments on their M4 Carbines. But I think these articles would back up my point in sword usage. While I generally use guns for their effectiveness and I would be quicker to use a gun in the case of my life being in danger, I might use a sword for close range personal defense rather than a gun.

I would encourage CP to get in on this. I would like to hear his two cents on usage of both.

the most effective weapon is your body. now to the question: I'll go with swords even tho I almost had my thumb chopped off some years back by one. the type I prefer: katana. but I still go for knives even over swords (hunting ones are my favorites).

I've already cut myself when I was shaving wood with knife. That was 10 years ago. I have a preference for guns in effectiveness but I'd be pretty careful with anything with a sharp edge to it. But then again, never bring a knife to a gun fight/fist fight.
