how our society is reverting back to a 1950's mindset in regard to gender roles or lack of respect?

The current trend of controlling women's health issues is what disturbs me most. It's led by pure ignorance and people are actually FOLLOWING the pied piper on this one. How that so many decades of work to get some sort of respect in regard to women's health issues and it's all unravelling at a startling pace.

The scarier part is that the amount of misogyny witnessed is either from very, very old fossils or the younger generations that have been conditioned to not think and are intentionally kept ignorant. I've noticed that often- when there's an argument regarding women's rights/women of any kind, these types quickly turn and point the finger back at women. Excuse me, but it's still very much a man's world out there and sexism is still very much alive. It's hard for these finger pointers to understand since they were born with male privilege.

Also, why just women's health issues? Nobody is touching men's health issues, which seem to be wholeheartedly supported without question. Viagra, anyone? Notice how that at a lot of these hearings and meetings that it's mostly men deciding what's best for women's health rights. Ironic? The sad part is that you know the second men's health issues are brought to light, they aren't treated with such disregard and filled with so much misinformation. These jack asses running for office, making such outrageous claims that Planned Parenthood is all about abortions, really piss me off and scare me. They want to be a LEADER? Terrifying.

I don't know about the '50s, but it sure seems like everything is going to hell. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only sane person in this country with some of these things the majority of people seem to agree on/vote for. Then I realized citizens hardly have any say, and if all the political figures agree on something, then it's going to happen. If anything, at least elect more people to positions like that who have differing opinions on issues. : (
I used to think we were an evolved society and that meant we would be more open to everyone's rights, but instead, people are coming down harder on women's rights, gay rights, etc as time goes on. I don't get it....I really don't.

@rockyroadicecream: I honestly don't know what you're talking about, can you please give us an example of what do you mean? (I thought you were talking about the abortion debate but I think you're talking in a more general way, but I don't know of other scenarios to relate to what you are saying.)

With all the financial crap going on, they're looking to cut funding where they can. The popular target is Planned Parenthood/women's reproductive rights, which is linked. Planned Parenthood takes something insignificant like 3 cents out of every dollar for funding, so these candidates aiming to take it out are fools.

Abortion IS a part of it, but they're trying to peg Planned Parenthood as a place where people can go all gung ho with abortions. The fact of the matter is that there's a lot of red tape involved to even get one there, and the percentage is incredibly small in regard to their other services, which ALSO benefit males. STD testing, cancer screenings, birth control, condoms, anything related to reproductive health.

But no, it's all about abortions. Oh no, birth control is bad since it means more sex! God forbid a woman go to get a pap smear to help detect cervical cancer.

There's already a state that banned abortions, even in the case of rape. The fools passing all these laws that are threatening to limit a women's opportunity to access affordable reproductive care are just scary. BUT VIAGRA IS STILL READILY AVAILABLE. God forbid boners don't exist.

The entire thing is an absolute mess. I find it sad so many people are on board to take away women's reproductive rights and access to health care.

Its all about making money to these politicians anyways.

Did my eye drops really have to cost me $ 140. last week? My boss doesnt want to pay for eye insurance, yet he takes his $ 15,000 vacations and cries about money. I know he works hard and deserves his vacations but damn. Does one really have to stay at the same hotel George Clooney stayed at in Barcelona?

And with the mammograms... the government shouldnt have to pay them for you, but perhaps the government can give those facilities tax breaks so that they can LOWER THE FEES OF THESE MAMMOGRAMS so EVERYONE can afford them.
Charging $ 90+ for an X-ray?! Thats fucking ridiculous.

What you are about to read is based on years of becoming cynical about political motivation. WARNING:

I have a hard time believing that the very same people who supposedly want to make abortion illegal are also being charged with wanting to ban birth control. Personally, I think this is a political ploy aimed at the youth vote. Big bad EVIL people want to take your reproductive rights away and ALSO don't want to deny you access to birth control.

Who are these people who want to do this anyway? Personally, I don't know anyone who wants this. Do you?

Its the 21st century for gawd's sake. No one could make birth control illegal if they tried. This is why I think its a cynical political ploy. This very same argument has been going on for decades. 1)its never happened and 2) abortion is still legal.

Does anyone know what it would take to make abortion illegal? A constitutional amendment--which ain't ever, ever, ever going to happen. Abortion will be legal until all of us are dead and buried. Guaranteed. But its very useful for slimy politicians to prey on young minds with this bullshit.

I told you I was cynical. Carry on. (I don't subscribe to any political party--I'm an atheist in that sense)

Do Scorps even live on the same planet as the rest of us human beings? All of this has been in the news and a hot button topic in the political arena. Google it. The Republicans have been on a tirade about these issues for awhile now.

Not cynical. More like a little ignorant on the issues.

@DG: yeah but you're in the U.S, not exactly the country with the model insurance industry. I might be mistaken but i dont think I am, that females get free testing from 21+ here in Australia. I think its the same case in Canada. But then again, i'm might be wrong.

This must be something new with the Mammograms cus I always had my annual.....this year things had changed....you would think preventive health care would be something to encourage...why wait till I'm friggin dieing to cover me.....I'm moving to Canada...lol....thats why people in the States do crooked shit with the insurance companies. If you think the Mafia was considered organized crime, think again, Insurance Companies and Corporate America are the true Mob Bossess....

The insurance companies are ridiculous. Fortunately, many are jumping on board with preventative measures by offering gym memberships and an annual preventative test. However, I know some do it temporarily and ditch it when they think it's costing them too much.

Silly assholes, it costs more to treat the outcome, not the preventative measures.
