I have to say I am at the 'sick of hearing about it' stage. I think it has been blatantly obvious that war was a certainty from the moment troops were deployed. To answer your question, there are never any winners in war. But to add, if the democratic world, now committed to this maddness, doesn't come away with the upper hand, then god help us all! Mind you, I don't think that will be too much of an issue. America has more weapons than any other nation (except maybe North Korea), and more fire power generally, and more personnel (does the US still have the draft—). I think though, that the governments are misguided as to how long this exercise will take. I can forsee serious ramifications for the world which will last much longer than anticipated. When the first shot is fired, I am sure acts of terrorism will escalate. Don't underestimate here, this war will be huge. I fear for all people across the globe. I fear that North Korea will use this to stage another Pearl Harbour. I can only hope that some miracle occurs where it is either ended quickly, or peace is restored. Meanwhile, I will try and bury my head in the sand and believe that the world is really a good place to be.

I'm sick of hearing about it too. It's like, how much more doom and gloom can we take without getting seriously depressed? To answer your question, yes we still *have* the draft, but I don't know if we'll have to draft people for this war. If I'm not mistaken, it's been a long time since we've needed to do that. And I agree, I hope it's over with ASAP. I believe in the principles behind what the president would like to do, but war is indeed sad and worrisome and depressing. And North Korea would be wise to *not* stage another Pearl Harbor. And let's hope not too many good people lose their lives during this thing.

Bottom line Saddam could go into exile in france. The french have many x dictators living there( its a club I think). He has billions of pounds to live on. Believe it or not the french would protect him even after all he has done to his own people. A lot of foreign nations live off the U.S.A. and the U.K. but when we need them to bad. I do not like war but sometimes we must stand and fight. We in the U.K. do not feel we are a part of europe we are a part of the english speaking world. The U.K., Canada, U.S.A. Australia and New Zealand or our people. Sorry if you disagree but thats how the English Scots and Welsh feel.

Personally, I'm really really really sick of hearing about how much french are weany losers with no spine and all the french jokes that go along with it. What I think is really really really stupid, is how they're renaming french fries to to other things, like freedom frys in the white house caffeteria and "European Fries" in california. It's really really really pathetic when headline news is "California Renames French Fries".

Well, people are pissed off because the overwhelming perception of the French is that they are not on our side. And by "our side", I'm referring to "the majority". And right or wrong, it is the majority. The French for the last approximately fourty years have been somewhat anti-america, which is fine and they're entitled to be so, but we're entitled to rename our fries if we feel the desire to.

The funny thing is they should not be called French Fries. THey didnt originate in France, they originated in Belgium. Hehehe

Bill O'Reilly is leading a big French boycott. I really dont care since I dont buy too many French products anyway. He also said he doesnt respect anyone who goes to vacate in Paris. I dont like that statement since I want to visit France someday. I wonder if this were Ireland going out of their way to stop this war. Would Bill change his last name? lol

Well, we're in big trouble if other nations decide to jump in, like Korea for example. It's like a play ground fight, it starts off with one or two people and ends up with god knows how many. I admire france for their stance, they do not believe in going to war and are defending their principles. I don't see how this war is justified, as far as i see it is george bush's vendetor against saddam hussien and has nothing to do with the rest of the world really. I am scared in a way because god know's how this is going to end up. There is no pre-determined future, the future is what we make it, but right now, we are not making it good. It's not us anyway, it's a few insane world leaders. My opinion is, they need something to do, because if they weren't so bored, they wouldn't be doing this. Hasn't anybody ever taught them how to draw?

But seriously, i truelly hope this doesn't esculate any further. I don't agree with what they are doing, i don't understand where all this has come from and i really don't don't think france, or any other nation, should feel obliged to participate, majority or not. I really admire nations that are not taking a stance on this, because in not taking a stance, they are taking a stance against war. The renaming of the fries is even too ridiculous to comment on...

I have a feeling that these things won't happen though.

Mmmm..potato logs...that could work for your thicker cut chips, but maybe Fries could be called Potato Sticks. Personally, I wouldn't follow Britians lead in anything. I like Phoenix's idea best so far. As for France, my understanding of things is that they LOVE Americans but despise Aussies. As for Libra Girls post, total agreement with what you said, BUT don't let fear take a hold...keeping things 'light' here (the joking around) is a great release for ppl. I think ppl are just so mentally fatigued thinking about what will or will not happen that they need to lighten up for fear of heads exploding. Regardless, of standpoint, now is the time to support one another, and not forget that life is worth living and it is ok to still laugh. (nNot trying to create offense here- I hope you see what I am getting at)

on the fries issue, im on the vote for "liberty fries"
as to what i have heard in california so far

they actually offered it in one of the burger places here... how funny

and to france... like jamestate said, iraq owes them money.

why attack someone that owes you a hefty amount of money. its understandable. we just hate them right now because its a "knee jerk reaction" for us that they didn't side with us or the rest of the countries against iraq.

either way, this war is all about the dollars (petrol, and oil). and thats what sucks about it.

Sorry but I disagree that it's all about the oil (money). I think it's definitely part of it, but I also think it's that Bush has a personal and political vendetta against Hussein. And I think it's just an "added bonus" (bad as that sounds) that by wiping out their military arsenal we are pre-emptively assuring in as much as we can that they cannot "hit us first". Not saying I agree really, but just saying that I really don't think it's all about the money. That's a hell of a callous and ballsy move to put so many good people's lives at stake just for money reasons.

It would be nice to believe that these huge decisions to go to war aren't about money. But unfortunately, it is true. The world today is ruled with economic interests first and foremost. Second to that comes types of regimes. In Iraq's case, dictatorship doesn
't sit well with democracy, so slowly but surely, the most powerful will subjugate the weaker, b/c the threat is always there. That's what you get when you live under a paranoid government. All the propaganda BS that I have heard from Bush and Coward (Howard- you know, Australia's Prime Minister)is full of it. It all sux. I guess that is the reason I chose law as my career..to change the world before it kills itself! At least (so far) the strikes have been localised and specific and the Yanks and Aussies didn't level the entire city. (And yes...the Aussies were the first ones in there as well as the Americans). I'm tired. I'm bored. I really should go to bed.

yes you are right phoenix, absolutely!

But we cannot deny that money doesn't play a huge roll in this war. cmon, we are talking about people in politics which backgrounds involve oil (BUSH), and petrol (CHENEY) fighting against a country that is abundant of what they want. sure, there is some personal vendeta involved with the bush admin from the first gulf war and saddam's relevance to the 911 contributions to bin laden but as far as getting pre-emptive attacks from iraq ("getting hit first") i find that not the case.
I mean why attack iraq when infact that one of the biggest threat really is north korea. they blatantly admit that they have nuclear powers, and they boast their armies and their power, not to mention that their dictatorship is far worst than iraq. did we really see the UN ask N. Korea to dissarm? maybe we tried, but not as much as we have seen them pressure iraq. Then why not attack N. Korea first?

Bush even warned the iraqi soldiers not to touch the oil fields or there will be consequences. (i find that, um, unbelievable that this war is all about teaching the baddies that they are wrong).

when N. Korea joins iraq (because N. Korea offered assylum to saddam), we now have a world war.

just my opinion. just for the record, i don't like this war because i have family in this war.

If this war is all about oil, why didnt we take care of this after the first Gulf War?

Where were all of the protesters when Bill Clinton took action in Kosovo? Not saying that im a Bush fan, but I find it hypocritical that the Democratic leaders here that supported President Clinton when he never went to the U.N. are slaming Bush saying that he isnt giving it enough time or that he is a war monger. I hope this war goes well and that civilian casualties are very little.

As for North Korea I agree 100% that they should be dealt with as well. Kim Jong Il is such a creepy looking guy. lol

I don't like any war, but two things: 1. It's a reality we have to deal with now. 2. I believe it is sometimes necessary, especially when diplomacy has failed. 3. Saddam is a threat. There is no question of that, and if there is, you haven't been informed properly. So the question is, if not now, when? North Korea--excellent points on that. You definitely have a point. But the fact that we need to also look at them does not take away from the fact that we need to deal with Saddam.

This war, if it wasn't happening now, would have definitely happened eventually, and we kinda want to get it done with now before the crazy dictator (and that's Hussein, not Bush) actually has his nuclear weapon he's only a few years away from making.

If not now, when...if not this way, how.......

btw, I saw on mtv news a bunch of teenage "protesters", LAUGHING while singing to the tune of rapper Ludacris's "Move, B**ch", "move, Bush, get out the way, get out the way bush get out the way". Sorry but I think that is sad, and pathetic that kids who have no idea what they're talking about think its cute and funny to protest. They don't even understand what they're protesting against, and then to laugh about it just shows their age and ignorance. Disturbing.

you are right war is sometimes necessary, and saddam should be dealt with.

but its easier said than done when you have no family at war... earlier i did say that we should also get it over with, i actually shared the same point of view with you, however when i found out that 2 of my cousins that i grew up with (both brother and sister) are at the same war fighting. i looked at it on the protestors side and asked myself maybe they have families at war too. and i soon realized that this war is stupid but like you said it is necessary.

im still not supporting it. because money is involved.

i agree with your reason for diplomacy but to what i see people didn't react as much because it was in different times, different times of ruling a country. each were portrayed differently (bush's diff views of prosperity vs. clinton's) people just see bush as a dirty harry looking for trouble. i know that you may think that regardless of times or diff presidents that we shouldn't call bush a war monger (even tho im not saying he is) that diplomacy should be a top priority.

diplomacy is now too late. what can we do when the president wants to regulate?

did you guys know that N. koreans are brainwashed propaganda by their gov't

they actually have the only U.S ship S.S Pueblo in captivity as a monumental sight seeing place because they say they defeated the americans during the N.korea and U.S confrontation during WWII. in the ship was a fake apology letter that says that U.S apologized for invading N. korea.
it was funny because we did not apologize one bit, they do this to lead their people to think that they are more powerful than they think. also, during the famine historians speculate that it has killed almost 2-3 million of N. Koreans, but when confronted they say its our propaganda and not alot died and it was no biggy.

just thought i should share that these people are willing to die for their country, everyday they expect an invasion from the U.S. (they hate america with passion).

all this info was told and shown by my korean buddy's father and his books. we had an argument and he proved me wrong. lol.

"they do this to lead their people to think that they are more powerful than they think." Are you for REAL? They have more nuclear weapons than ANY other nation in the world and at THIS stage, their army consists of one million ppl (and it's rising). YES, they use propoganda, and their FAMINE is exacerbated by their government withholding the millions of dollars worth of food that is given by other nations (mostly Americans donations). He is deliberately starving his own ppl. From the age of 2 yrs, kids go to school and spend all day praying for the health of their leader and that he will one day bring down America. They do math by using North Korean Tanks and American Tanks as counting blocks. One of their weapons could basically wipe out Seoul, killing one million pple (worse case senario - but an accurate one). If their leader doesn't give a buttere about his OWN ppl, and is systematically trying to kill them, what makes you think they care about any other nation and ESP. America. AS I write this they have long range nuclear missiles programmed in (FACT) on a flight path that will hit LA, Chicago, New York, Washington to name but a few (FACT). Also, there are MORE American troops based at the North Korean border, than there are in Iraq at the moment. If you ask the soldiers, "who is the bigger threat, Iraq or N.K?", they reply "N.K without a doubt". Maybe I misinterpreted that statement of yours, but if not, then your ignorance is frightening. Oh, and by the way, N.K. is not the ONLY nation I can think of that uses propoganda against their own ppl.

"Maybe I misinterpreted that statement of yours, but if not, then your ignorance is frightening"

cuz i was pointing that out because i learned something new from arguing from pal's father that iraq maybe a bigger threat. was it stupid of me to point that out? (maybe to you it was) but thanks for the more detailed description of N. korea's power, now i have new knowledge because my ignorance is at a frightening level.

you seem to know everything. if you were a teacher i would drop the class and learn from from someone who doesn't let people down for their ignorance.
