Hi all, this is my first post, albeit a negative one. It's basically a vent more or less of the crap I've put up with for years living in Austin, Texas.

This is a combination of my interactions not only with University of Texas students, but working their football games, and also notable local news stories regarding it. I'm still going to college off and on, but NOT UT.

1. The "Football is a Religion" mentality - Yes folks who live in other states, this stereotype about Texas is absolutely true. I want to preface that I am a sports fan. I like Hockey, Basketball, and some baseball. Football not so much as for the reason listed in title as well as working as an athletic trainer in high school for it.

UT Fans here are exceptionally obnoxious. The loud, ominous screams of "Texas!" is like the theme from Jaws cueing me that I'm now in The Twilight Zone. They are extremely rude to out of town visitors. Openly screaming to a bunch of out town competing team fans "You're all f-gs!" Or immediately making fun of them out loud when entering a bar. Their overdramatic rage when losing a game. Years ago, I personally witnessed drunk fans enraged over a loss almost successfully tip a bus over.

Whatever happened to southern hospitality? I'm always straight up embarassed to tell people when I'm visiting out of town or state I live in Austin. Austinites have become despised more and more due to the boorish behavior of UT fans. I have relatives in Oklahoma City. I was visiting them and went to an OU Hangout. Made some conversation with OU students who were some of the friendliest people I've ever encountered. When they asked me where I was from, I sheepishly changed the subject or joked around. After consistant nagging wore me down, I confessed "Please dont hate me for the stupidity of my fellow residents when I tell you where."

Once told, they laughed, made a couple of jokes and moved on. Still behaved friendly and courteous to me. I was pleasantly surprised and moved somewhat by their behavior. I also felt intense hate for fellow Austinites who couldn't bother to act the same for people like them.

Let's get to Mack Brown, the resident Darth Vader of UT Football. His salary alone could probably finance more courses and school venues. Did I mention they almost closed The Cactus Cafe a legendary music venue for the main purpose of paying for his raise? If self-love was a contest, Mack Brown would beat Donald Trump by miles.

Mack is an egomaniac from hell. Thinking everyone should kiss his ring when they are in proximity of him.

The setlist played at UT pre-game. This is top 40 from redneck hell. A nice combo of awful mainstream country music where the songs enter into "God Bless Texas" self-serving type territory. They dont even bother to change it at another game. BTW if I hear Taylor Swift again for the millionth time, it will be much too soon. All right you're a victim, we totally get it. Now put on some big girl pants and grow the hell up.

2. The Students - Before I begin, I would like to preface some friends of mine graduated from UT. They're cool peeps. But unfortunately the minority does not make the majority here.

UT students must have a ritual freshman year where they have the longest stick inserted into their gluteous maximus. Cause they act behave like they do. The students are snobby to the T. The students think they're better than everyone else. I guess I can't blame them coming from Country Club douchebag parents that tend to their every whim. Don't get me started on their parents, some of the rudest people I've ever encountered.

Even the kids who are there on student loans participate in being sh--heads. All of them just reek of pure entitlement. It makes one wonder if UT is the real training ground for the George Dubyas of this world instead of A&M.

I've met students at a private expensive college and they dont act like the UT ones do surprisingly enough. I help tutor students in my spare time at different colleges which is how I know this BTW. They are easygoing, fun, and have some humility to them. Same with Texas State Students.

Maybe UT students should be sent to those schools for hazing and de-brainwashing. I'll tie this little rant up later got to get to work.

Hi all. Sorry for the late reply.

Have been busy trying to make sure I dont get to the point of standing on the highway carrying a "Will Suck For A Buck" sign. But I'm here now currently jamming out to the soundtrack of The 80'S Karate Kid while writing this. Yes... I'm that ancient but not out of touch well completely, anyway.

Anywho, would like to respond to a few things.

@Jynja - I guess I came across as Clint Eastwood (albeit actually slighted medicated this time around). To clarify, I dont care about people having fun and a good time. I'm the same way myself contrary to what my post may paint me as. But... people dont have to be douchebags. And I've provided examples of students from different schools who were fun people but not of the Ed Hardy a--wipe variety. College students can be immature without being complete and utter pricks.

Chance - Austin is progressive for Texas anyway. But doesn't hold a candle to Portland or San Francisco. Music scene here is iffy. We have some good local bands, but that is quickly dying out. Due to austin being more accomodating rent-wise to rich, coke snorting yuppies. Now we just have more and more bad cover bands. (BTW if I hear Sweet Home Alabama anymore, I'm gonna personally show Lynyrd Skynrd the sweet home of a .38 special.) Even though I was born in Texas I have lived in other states. Enough to be ashamed Im from here.

@Elle - I never had a choice in living here. We moved to Austin years ago cause my mom got a job here. I'm here mainly due to taking care of a relative. With the way things are going in my personal life, unfortunately I will be gone by January or Feb. I am moving out of here for personal and financial reasons. I've been in other college towns and they were no where as terrible and annoying attitude-wise like Austin.

@SwimmingLioness - Thanks I understand exactly where you are coming from.

Folks, I've just got so many negative memories here too. Things were cool when we moved here in 1987. Even though school sucked. I had more friends in the school where we were living before moving to Austin. It was about late 1990-1991 that Austin to me began it's slow decline into Rich Douchebag Hipsterism. And also where my life became a never-ending Lifetime Movie of the Week nightmare. Yeah, I didn't care for the 90's except for 1990 which was a good year, just ended terribly. It's the biggest cliche, but the 80's were the best time happiness-wise for me t
