This super sensitive, overly PC bullshit is getting ridiculous.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4203460/Schools-ban-children-making-best-friends.html<BR>
TEACHERS are banning schoolkids from having best pals — so they don't get upset by fall-outs.
Instead, the primary pupils are being encouraged to play in large groups.

Educational psychologist Gaynor Sbuttoni said the policy has been used at schools in Kingston, South West London, and Surrey.

She added: —I have noticed that teachers tell children they shouldn't have a best friend and that everyone should play together.

—They are doing it because they want to save the child the pain of splitting up from their best friend. But it is natural for some children to want a best friend. If they break up, they have to feel the pain because they??re learning to deal with it.??

Russell Hobby, of the National Association of Head Teachers, confirmed some schools were adopting best-friend bans.

He said: —I don't think it is widespread but it is clearly happening. It seems bizarre.

—I don't see how you can stop people from forming close friendships. We make and lose friends throughout our lives.?? The Campaign for Real Education, which wants more parental choice in state education, said the —ridiculous?? policy was robbing children of their childhood.

Spokesman Chris McGovern added: —Children take things very seriously and if you tell them they can't have a best friend it can be seriously damaging to them. They need to learn about relationships.??

What the hell is wrong with school admin/teachers? Don't they take child development classes in the process of their degree? These types of interactions are important.

I just keep hearing more ridiculous bs like banning pastries, peanut butter (or any other allergen type foods), backpacks (weapons), etc. Pussification of children.

If I ever have kids, I may opt for private school- only if they haven't already adopted such ridiculous bullshit.

It's just a reminder of how invasive schools are becoming in your child's life. When I was in school, there were always THOSE teachers. The meddling ones who had nothing better to do than interfere and essentially be that busy body who felt she knew what was best for your kid.

There was a teacher who called social services in regard to my brother because of some issues he'd had at the time (my dad had passed away, kids were assholes toward him about it, and it was a rough time emotionally for him). They stopped by to talk to my mom and the social worker got really pissed off because she was so tired of these idiotic teachers butting in and making calls when they weren't necessary.

Kinda like how they think it's necessary to do this ban. They take freaking child development classes, so why they go and do things like this and ignore the other obvious issues (read: bullying)? Makes me wonder if the system for educating teachers needs to be improved upon.

The allergen thing I do understand to an extent, but it's sort of a fine line between the whole controlling bit and being cautious. I mean, the other day, I hear a story about how they weren't allowed to bring cupcakes in for the kid's birthday. Caution is one thing, but they're taking the fun out of childhood for these kids.

I heard another instance where they weren't allowed to RUN during recess.

At what point is it still considered safety and not overbearing/ridiculous?

Man, you're already seeing the effects of the coddling/sheltering bs from the kids born and raised in the early 90s. Bunch of entitled, spoiled brats who think life is hard because they don't have the most current iPhone. They're in for a rude awakening when they hit the real world.

Coddling and sheltering like these parents and teachers try to do is just detrimental to them when they get into adulthood. They're hurting them, not benefiting them. :/
