Awww man I fucking love Nu Metal music. The first Nu metal band I listened to was Rage against the Machine and later on moved to Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones. And my all time favorite Linkin Park in 2004. I really Nu Metal is one of the best fusion titles I ever listened to. If I ever start a band Nu Metal would be a good thing to play. But yes, Nu Metal I believe ran its course. Some say it's still alive others say it's gone. Though I the course was really between the 80's with bands like Faith No More and Bad Religion and later on into maybe 2005 somewhere around there. I think it stopped because there was nothing else to fuse it with or tastes moved elsewhere.

The thing is that after something has run its course for a while it can be cool to start a band doing it because there really isnt too much of it around and it is a cool throw back. Plus Nu Metal is so awesome to see live, the way the music is set up just seems like its meant to be listened to live. But interesting though I handt thought of it as running its course, although it makes sense because whenI think about it there havent a whole lot of nu metal bands coming out any more and even the more established bands like SOAD and Korn most recent releases havent been nu metal, tKorns been releasing dub step stuff and SOAD's latest album was a fusion between black metal and surf rock which was really cool.
Do any of y'all mind recommending some good contemporary metal genres or artists?

I used to listen to nu metal in my early teens. Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Powerman 5000, Slipknot, Deftones, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Drowning Pool, P.O.D., Otep, Godsmack, Soil.... just to name a few. I grew out of it over the years, but I still play a CD every now and then. The nostalgia factor. IMO not nearly as bad of a metal subgenre as some music fanatics make it out to be, especially for those who are also fans of both punk and hip-hop. But it's still the kind of music that always was and probably will stay popular mainly among teenagers.

I agree that it's popularity is mainly among teenagers but I ask myself "why is that the case?" A lot of people think its a bad thing that it is popular with teenagers but I think it is a sign of the facts that teenagers take the time to enjoy good art and also have enough life inside them to a really visceral kind of music.

I always loved it for the lyrics when I was younger. Slipknot got me through a really horrid childhood, and while I'm not a huge fan of them now, they still hold a special place with me for that. Same with Korn. I'd rather young people listen to nu metal and hopefully branch into other genres of metal, instead of listening to a lot of the garbage that's played on today's radio stations.
