Animals are dumb?

Yeah, um .... no !!!!!!



Two parent geese, and 7 geeslings (chicks?) are living at a pond down the road, a busy road, actually. Anyway, I've been watching since they were just 7 little heads bobbing in the grass, and at the stop sign, which is next to the pond, I've been rolling my window down to take their picture (about 2 weeks now). This stop sign is at a pretty busy road that connects two towns, so there is a lot of traffic.

Well, the geese don't seem to notice. I guess like all animals, they get used to cars, get used to the hussling/bussling of humans, even if they are clueless to what the noise and commotion is all about.

So, a couple days ago, mayb nearly a week, there was no traffic and I decided to get out of my truck to get a closer pic, leaving my truck running in the middle of the road.

Yeah, that was a mistake .... the dad (maybe the female, I don't really know) cocked his feathers up, made a wierd noise inbetween a gurgle and a grunt, and lowered his (her) head at me and I knew he was getting ready to come at me.

My ass flying back to truck, running like a fool. It scard me.


Anyway .. the point = they know my truck. When I go by, which is everyday, they ALWAYS take notice to either run the other direction, or if the babies (teenagers) are asleep, the parents raise up to eye-ball my truck .. and I am in awe.


How the fuck do geese know a particular vehicle, from the hundreds that pass daily?

And it's just a truck, a normal Ford pickup, nothing remarkable.

I had a cat once who trained herself to use the toilet.

When I lived on a farm ...we had a dog that ran loose around the 50 + acres. We lived off a busy highway and one day I was watching him down by the highway and he looked both ways before crossing it...I was seriously amazed. He was a very smart dog anyway but still yet. Most dog being loose like that run and you might not ever see them again...nope not him...he would always come back from his adventures and protect the house and property.
