Ivy League is why this country is in the dump.

He's bringing in real world experience.

He's not bringing in career politicians who have agendas and pockets lined with corporate funds.
That's why you're getting the head scratching by media talking heads.

Seeing the false introspection by papers such as the New York Times, claiming in an article about misunderstanding while still backhanding those who "dared" to express their vote is enlightening -- it only underscores how out of touch those people are out of touch.

I think people on both sides are going to be shocked. The Left, after it goes through its stages of grief, may find that his economic outlook is not so bad. The Right is going to have fits with some of his policies as well.

I don't think he cares much for the social issues that are (pardon the pun) trumped up to distract people from the real problems in the US. He IS concerned about setting right the downward trend the policies of at least the last 16 years have been putting in place.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/reince-priebus-and-stephen-bannon-will-lead-trumps-white-house/ar-AAkfuuN?li=BBnb7Kz

Donald Trump has named Reince Priebus as his White House chief of staff, rewarding a loyalist to his party and its long-serving chairman by making him his top aide in the Oval Office.

But he also named Steve Bannon, the head of his campaign and of the far-right website Breitbart, as his “chief strategist and senior counsellor”.

he has in the last few years headed Breitbart News, which has been accused by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) of antisemitism, and whose stories regularly traffic in racist and sexist stereotypes and conspiracy theories.

The ADL’s chief executive, Jonathan Greenblatt, welcome Priebus’ appointment but said of Bannon’s: “It is a sad day when a man who presided over the premier website of the ‘alt-right’ – a loose-knit group of white nationalists and unabashed anti-Semites and racists – is slated to be a senior staff member in the ‘people’s house’.”

Related: Steve Bannon, Trump campaign CEO, faced domestic violence charges

In 2007, Bannon’s ex-wife accused him of making antisemitic remarks, which he denied. In 1996 he was charged with domestic violence in a case that was eventually dismissed.

In August, the Guardian found that he was registered to vote in Florida, a key swing state, at an empty house where he did not live, in an apparent breach of election laws. Bannon subsequently changed his registration.

Bannon has repeatedly criticized Republicans, including House speaker Paul Ryan, for not moving far enough to the right.

Sheer genius.
I don't put a lot of stock in what the ADL says.

http://www.jewishpress.com/indepth/opinions/the-adl-turns-anti-israel/2016/05/24/

"Before heading the ADL, Greenblatt had been the director the Aspen Institute, an organization with close ties to George Soros. The previous ADL boss had condemned Soros. Its current boss was his man.

But Jonathan Greenblatt appears to motivated more by disinterest than animus. He is animated when urging companies to boycott North Carolina or advocating for #BlackLivesMatter. Like many on the left, Greenblatt views Jewish identity and history as coin to be traded in for left-wing causes. He likes heading up a civil rights group, but the Jewish part is an uncomfortable formality."

Breitbart connection we know. Far right we also know.

Anyone associated with Breitbart, PLUS the far right, is fucking crazy. (1)

Period.

So *one* of Trumps closest advisors, at least, (that ^^^ guy) is his "chief strategist and senior counsellor."

Good stuff so far.

Who's the next bit of "real world experience" we'll get to see?

Can't wait!

Can't wait either. For someone "disinterested" in US politics, must hurt, eh?

If anyone knew the Left better than anyone, it was Andrew Breitbart.

Brennan will engage the Left on their own (low) terms, when it comes to that.

If the people of Breitbart are "crazy", then they're in good company, based on the over-the-top reaction of the media and astroturf protesters currently going on.

Giuliani would have been a good AG, but it looks like that might not happen.

Imagine the heads exploding if someone like, say Preet Bharara were put in the DOJ.

Democrat, but has an impressive track record about bringing down cases of public corruption.

Soros was a "capo". Turned in his own people to the Nazis.

And yes, that guy is an evil man.

The US might want to turn him over to Russia as a goodwill gesture.

I'm just watching in astonishment from 2016, in a modern, progressive, democratic country, where the current right wing in the United States would be politically unemployed. For obvious reasons.

I hope that I'm absolutely wrong in my little anti-fuckhead rant, and these folks will turn out to be moderates after all and pull toward the centre as much as possible. Because not only is there the issue of the looming Social Dark Ages, but Trump's grand economic vision for America is about 40 years out of date; it's just not possible to achieve that kind of protectionism without deep economic consequences, when the American workforce has years ago shifted away from the industrial sectors that Trump wants to reinvigorate. There are no incentives deep enough for employers to make it financially worthwhile (from a consumer demand perspective especially) to support the demands and life style expectations of such a workforce. It's just not realistic.

And if Trump is forced to make massive concessions in this area and goes soft on all his bluster, then the hilarity will be real when he takes a dump all over his grassroots base and actually looks like a whiter, fatter Obama. So we can only hope that there'll be a lot of galactically pissed Hoosiers fans.

Actually, there are incentives.

The US has one of the highest corporate tax rates on the globe. Companies keep money parked off-shore and avoid reinvestment because of those tax rates. Look up the term "corporate inversion".

Trump is planning to reduce that tax rate to make it competitive and that makes an incentive to reinvest stateside.

Reduction of regulation. Regulations (especially in the last 8 years) have stifled the largest economic engine in the US - the small business. Many of those "regulations" under Obama have been implemented via executive order or "memorandum". Hardly the hallmark of a "modern, progressive, democratic society". In fact, much of the activity undertaken in the last 8 years, and IMHO, as far back as 2000, has been to tilt things in favor of politically connected business interests to stifle free enterprise. Trump has claimed an interest in rolling those back. We'll see. But if he follows through, the lifting of that regulation will also spur innovation and risk taking in the economic sector.

Neither of the above is 40 years out of date. But I can say the last eight years have put the US 60 years out of date and on another continent, one that is having its own problems now and is attempting to stymie the attempts of individual countries to execute their own "Brexit".

I suspect your astonishment is really coming from a fundamental misunderstanding, willful or otherwise, of the right of people to self-determine the course of their lives without being "directed" by self- style d elites. You have every right to that view, and live your own life accordingly.

If Trump does take an extreme turn from his comments, the electorate will take its actions accordingly.

Okay.. let's go with that. The next 4 years will consist of his administration putting before congress nothing but abortion, trans, and gay hindering legislation. Sounds like a productive 4 years.

I think Trump doesn't give a shit about the "social" issues for the most part.

He's a New York businessman. He's had to put up with every kleptocrat with their hand out.

He knows the game, and the impression I get is that he's tired of it, especially when he sees those parts of the country that have been hit hardest by policies enacted by people who have no experience outside of the classroom.
