did no one show me this flick at 14 years old? I may be placing too much value, but this flick would have saved me soooo much heartache in dating.

Ok, so last night I caught a movie on pay cable (hbo, cinemax, whatev). This movie I saw in the 80's but never finished it.

The movie is called "The Last American Virgin".

I had the opportunity to finally watch it all the way through. Even though it is very dated, it is one of the most accurate versions of dating I've ever seen.

Admittingly, the lead character is a bit wussy for my tastes. But still what happens to him is very gut wrenching and all too true. "Say Anything" was the nice guy's fantasy. "The Last American Virgin" is the nice guy's reality.

And every self-respecting older guy should show this movie to their teenage brother or cousin. Sometimes movies can speak louder than words.

The thing that pisses me off about these kinds of flicks is they always make the nice guy borderline Queer Eye For The Straight Guyish. So to a point, its hard to sympathize with their situation.

Does anyone remember Can't Hardly Wait? I mean how lame was Preston? The man listened to Barry Manilow for cryin' out loud. At some point while watching it I was fully expecting him to jump out of the closet and sing the entire revue of A Chorus Line.

There ain't no flippin way in real life a girl like Jennifer Love Hewitt (back when she was hot) would ever give a guy like that a chance.

And Ducky from Pretty in Pink? What an annoying idiot. I can see why he got dissed for Andrew McCarthy. The only cool nice guy I've ever seen onscreen was Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything. Even though that movie was not realistic at all. He had some masculinity and a sense of humor. But in real life with this generation of women, if I went outside a girl's house blasting a boombox, she would be going "How C-A-REEPY!!"

My other pet peeve about these movies is they always have the dudes go for the hot girl with Pretty in Pink being the lone exception. In real life, a lot of men like me in high school and college, went for the cute "nice girl" looking type. But never had a chance because she was too busy bitching and moaning about the hot jock/musician stud who wouldn't look her way.

I'm normally against remakes, but hollywood should do a remake of this one for the younger crowd. Except this time, make the girl just cute looking and make the nice guy have a sense of humor, but with the same realistic ending the original had.

Yeah, Mr. Jamie Kennedy Experiment. A funny thing happens to hot women as they approach the 30's. They suddenly "mature" AKA (Realize they have a 5 year warranty left on their looks. And start to understand the Johnny Depps of the world can dump them for someone younger and hotter, so they go for the average guy who thinks he can't get another attractive woman.

Except in the long run, she'll get burned anyway. One, he's a celebrity and even if you look like Screech, attractive women will allow you front row seats to their vajy due to having that kind of status. Two he's a male gemini, nuff said.

I debated long and hard about responding to your post Jadedragon. As I'm not very interested in getting into a 8 page verbal tango. However I'm going to post because I think there are some misunderstandings on your part. So let's clarify:

"It's great to see you have women all figured out."

Thank you, although the comment is sarcastic, I do have a decent understanding of women as the big 3-0 comes. Its called experience. Anytime I ever make an opinion regarding the opposite sex comes from my experience in dating and female friends dating stories.

Otherwise, do you think I would have the balls to come into the den of the She-Ra Manhater's Club without some kind of backup? Hellz no! I am not sure if your post is trying to imply misogyny on my part. But see, I do find men to be equally immature and stupid as a lot of women can be. Although I may not post in that vein as often as I should. *Check 1 on my new year's list, post more to men telling them how they are huge lying hypocrites*

" How do male gingers deal with their own sad realizations about the TRUE nature of women's preferences when it comes to a man's physical appearance (AKA dark and handsome)?"

I cant speak for all male gingers just myself. Well I've dealt with that reality since my teenage years. It's called bait and switch. Just accept the fact that women who b---h nonstop about men being extremely shallow (which borders on generalization) are equally just as bad. And dye your hair to fit into the demographic of what a lot of women are physically attracted to. Bam! That problem is solved. When in doubt, fake it till you make it.

"Generalization 1: Women over ____ years are no longer sexually attractive in men's eyes."

You're way off. I NEVER stated that. WHAT I meant was a lot of women feel this way as they're hitting 30's and 40's. This is where experience comes into play. I've had MANY female friends who were extremely physically attractive tell me this. I loudly disagreed with them. As I would rather be with a 35 year old any day of the week vs some 23 yr old hottie who's selfish and immature that lacks skill sexually to compensate for her inner ugliness.

And Lesbians tend to pull the ole' "trade an old model in for a new one" interestingly enough. Example: Ellen DeGeneres. She was dating a very attractive actress named Alexandra Hedison. I think they dated 4 years and were engaged. To be continued...

Until she met Portia DiRossi. Who depending on what you read/hear, she immediately cheated or dumped Hedison for her. It is an unfortunate reality that a lot of older women have to deal with.

" Generalization 2: Women don't like redheaded men" I never said that. What I SAID was women in my town tend not to like it. But as I've now cut off a lot of the blonde on the top of my head, it's more brown now. So it's not as bad of a problem as I thought.

"Both are sweeping statements that are not only insulting, but also contribute to divisive opinions/viewpoints. They are for individuals with shallow minds, and nothing more."

As I've already clarified your generalizations, let's address the last comment. There's nothing wrong with divisive opinions as long as its conducted in an atmosphere of civility and mutual respect. I may disagree Jadedragon on your viewpoint since it comes from misunderstanding. BUT, I do respect you.

Not saying anyone here in particular does, but those who immediately jump to "oh, you're a misogynist!" view anytime a guy vents on here about women, consider this.

To be fair I've seen a lot of unfounded accusations and contradictions on the men's part here. However, there are a few post that are well-founded. Women (of the straight kind) have no clue what they are like dating-wise or in a relationship. They dont know the frustration and anger men can go through with them. Which is why I think every women who's single should at least once be in a same sex relationship.

And they'll come to find the things women complain about men doing (lying, infidelity, noncommital, psychojealousy) they do EXACTLY AS MUCH. From that juncture, they can realize this battle of the sexes is a joke. And Women and MEN are completely scary, psychotic hypocrites when it comes to relationships. Essentially men and women suck, period.
