I Have Trouble Connecting With People

Sometimes...because I'm not religious. I don't believe in Jesus, or Allah, or the Buddha. I respect other people's right to do so, and I can understand people's need for religion, but for me...it's just not there. I feel like that causes issues for me
I've long stopped accommodating deeply religious people because, eventually, they'll expect you to convert to their faith. Religion creates this pathetic team mentality, IMHO.

But what's really ironic is that, while they expect you to respect their faith, they're unable to respect your 'lack of faith'.

Ultimately, most of them are a bunch of narrow-minded hypocrites. treetrunk 'em all...

I see a lot of intolerance among people, religious and political. That's been on my mind a lot as of late. As we move into the future I'm concerned for the future of humanity.

Such an Aqua! I mean that in the best way possible. Lol

It's hard to live in what our world has become and I personally am terrified of what is to come. I think back to how it was in the 70's, 80's heck even the early 90's and there seemed to be more acceptance and just general compassion towards others as a whole. Maybe I was wearing rose tinted glasses compared to now... but I don't think it's that.

Lol

No, It's not just you. I was telling someone, not long ago, that I miss the first half of the 90's...because it was much quieter.

80's > 90's just saying.

That's what everybody says. I enjoyed the fact that I was adult in the 90's though. Can't tell me what to do. lol

Lolololol 89 for me! Plus the music was soooo much better.

i have a couple of muslim friends. some indulge in haram acts (they drink, they gamble) and can be quite open minded (well, the syrians, not necessarily the turks) and we can chat all kinds of butter except islam. each and everytime i start taking the piss with their religion, regardless of the fact some of them dont even attend the friday prayer (jumu'ah) and only go to masjid when they have to meet a friend, they get extremely upset when i tell them that in my opinion islam is a 2nd rate religion, a mere copy of judaism and christianity (well, the people of the book) fit for nomadic tribes and not urban dwellers.

and when we drink and i say cheers they respond: inch'allah raising their glasses =)))))))

the hipocrisy
ps: i barely know how to make the sign of the cross but when i confront them about islam i pose as the world's most fervent christian. to the point they call me isis. they say to me: u are isis. christian isis.

I'm not religious but most people don't feel like getting into that type of stuff so they just say I'm religious and leave it at that. But those people on the base level that are always talkin about Jesus that's who I have a issue with. I've stated all types of other things but every other sentence with them " Yea that's good but I love my Jesus. All things are possible through Jesus bla bla. Not discrediting Jesus but when you are learning about thousands upon aeons of history that old time churchical stuff is nulinvoid. People that still go to church but know it goes a lot deeper than the Bible, I have trouble connectin with those types too. You still listenin to this deceitful preacher who bought a Maybach and just had the IRS lookin into him, like really ?

I'm not religious, I consider myself spiritual. I sometimes find it a little more difficult to connect w/people on that level but I just remember that not everyone is the same. If it was that way life would be boring...

I find it interesting listening to people that contrast to me. Push me outta my comfort zone. If you believe in someTHING or someONE then tell me why. It's not about the differering opinions to me, it's about the learning opportunity.

I consider myself spiritual as well. I just don't see God as most people do.

It's mostly really devout people that I have trouble connecting with.

Why do you expect you will connect with everyone? It's not normal....in fact in real life connections can be rare. That's just life.

It's not that I expect to connect with everyone. I joke about wanting everyone to love me.

I meet people that I genuinely like and would like to connect deeper with, but religious concepts get in the way. It's harder to maintain relationships with people that you don't have genuine beliefs in common with, imo. It can be done, but it takes respect toward one another. You don't always get that, at least I haven't.

Hmm That's difficult for me to understand. The first bit ....i haven't ever gone i would consciously like to connect deeper with that person.

Do you think you are confusing them like you .....with having a connection? The two are not the same.

Having a connection is when you have an understanding of them.

I suppose it's when you understand their religion ..or whatever you NOW see the obstacle to your connection...in a way that means it's not an obstacle now...you understand.

I think people too often say respect ..but it's not talking about that certain part of their lives. Those groups of mates you don't talk about 'this' with. And they can be good mates.

When you understand them in such a way as you no longer see their beliefs as an obstacle ...and act in such a way where you are able to put your beliefs in such a way that they are not an obstacle for them

.that is when you have connected ..

Or even better ...they have changed you in such a way you have changed and expanded because you now have needed to draw on something beyond your own life experience.

You have learned from them.

Respectfully, I believe that you and I have different definitions of connection. Personally, I believe are different levels of connection, different degrees. In my opinion, there is a measure of connection, even in just liking someone.

Also, I think, no disrespect intended - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - that you see the problem as being from my side, as if I'm not understanding someone's religion or belief system. I grew up in a religious family, in a Christian home. So, other people's religion is the religion that I grew up with. I'm from a primarily Christian community. I do understand where they're coming from.

I've also had friends of different faiths. I've had Muslim friends. Also, Buddhist, Hindu, and Wicca.

It's not that I don't understand them (the people I end up not connecting with), it's more them not understanding where I come from, my beliefs. I often feel that I'm facing intolerance.

It's not major issue. I do have people that accept me as I am. I have good family and friends. It's more of an issue that I wanted to discuss to get opinions and to see if anyone feels the same way.

I see a lot of intolerance among people, religious and political. That's been on my mind a lot as of late. As we move into the future I'm concerned for the future of humanity.

You're not thinking this is entirely about romantic connections, are you?

Do u think u have trouble because "most" (generalization here, no harm ya'll) devout religious people seem to be very passionate and closed-off?

Like they aren't willing to engage and listen to you? Or is it something else?

I think I do. I do find people that aren't willing to engage with me at all, especially when it comes to thinking about he future. Most people are waiting on Jesus to return and I'm talking about artificial intelligence, regenerative medicine, and going to Mars. FML lol

Lol god is a spirit. Nobody can't see god with the naked eye in the flesh. Christians and religious people only see god in spirit. If you are spiritual as well you should see him spiritually too.

I disagree, respectfully of course. I think people's primitive bicameral minds are connecting more with anthropomorphic ideas of god, rather than an actual being. That's just my opinion though.

I'm not saying that we can't connect with anything higher.

...or if you could image a universe teeming with non-corporeal life...maybe amongst these could be lower beings who pretend to be god...just treetrunking with you.

It's okay to disagree. Everybody has different opinions. I respect everybody's opinions.

My only reaction is usually this...
