Well psychological testing beforehand wouldn't really matter because a lot is caused by factors after pregnancy.

And there are plenty of mothers with mental illness that don't harm their children.

You are absolutely correct. Excuse my I want to knock this woman senseless demeanor.

Unfortunately there's a history here. She escaped an abusive husband in South Carolina. One would think if she is "mentally ill" she'd wouldn't have the "mind" to do that. She did. Then she tries to kill her kids? Doesn't make any sense AT ALL.

...What do we call men that do the same...they kill the mothers too, plus whom ever is around as well. Is it jealously and despair if I can't have you no one will? Mental illness perhaps...Are men naturally more violent and abusive....

Do men receive less anger directed at them because they didn't give birth to their children....Do men love their children less and aren't as attached to their children as women are supposed to be......

I'm with you on this one. I try to be compassionate but when it comes to protecting those weaker, such as children, I'm all raging mama bear. I'd die to protect my own kids and anyone elses. I just can't imagine the kind of selfish it takes to use the kids in a sick game of stick it to the other person you're mad at. Kids should always be off limit.

I shared this here a while ago..
This bitch pulls into my driveway, I was on the side of my house, she didn't see me. I hear screaming from kids, coming from the car and then I could hear her screams. I had a shovel in my hand mind you. I hear a car door open, the bitch gets out, walks around the car (there was a guy in the front passenger seat who I saw slide down like he was hiding). She opens the back door and there's a toddler 3 years old in the car seat that she starts beating...the five year old little girl next to the toddler was getting the brunt of the beating because she was protecting her little sister. This woman had clenched fists.

I will never forget the sound of the blows. I ran to the car with that shovel in my hand right after I called 911. "HEY..WHAT THE FUCK ARE DOING?" She turns to me with that fist still clenched, I see the horror in that little five year old's eyes, I drop the shovel (when i realize the wimp in the front seat isn't doing anything) and tell her, "hit me..I'm more your size"..she tells me "Mind your own fucking business"..I tell her "I am, you are on my property get away from the car" the toddler is bleeding on the lip and I could see old bruises on her little legs, I lost it...the five year old was covered on her arms with old bruises..I mean, I lost it internally. The 5 year old looked at me like she wanted me to take her out of there, I will never forget that look in her eyes. I put my hand out, not realizing the bitch ran around the car, got back in, almost got t-boned by another car trying to get away. Long story short..they got her. She lost those kids permanently and spent five years in prison. I did not have to testify, my statement was enough, and THEN..the five year old's teachers and some neighbors came forward. The police kept me informed throughout the year on the process, in fact I applied to foster those kids. They went far away to their aunt. I had nightmares for a very long time after that. Oh..and the chump in the front se

My Aries ex went crazy if he saw someone hitting a child on the street. People would avoid the situation, walk away etc, he'd jump right in.

I always fear some day someone will pull a knife and end him. I told him that, he said he wouldn't care..at least he'd die doing something valuablle.

A close second to this is when he sees a man hit a woman. He cannot help himself.

More great parenting in Florida...smh
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/05/us/florida-abandoned-children/index.html<BR>
Police arrested the Butchers and charged them with loitering and prowling, and transported them to the county jail. There, McDonald said, police found methamphetamine in Michael Butcher's front pocket, resulting in additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband to a county detention facility.

The Butchers' troubles didn't end there.

While the couple never mentioned they had kids -- much less in their charge at the RV park -- a deputy called the police station to say he'd located three children, ages 6, 8 and 10, in the woods about a mile from the park. The kids told police they were the Butchers' children and that their parents had disappeared after bringing them to the woods to camp, McDonald said.

Dirty, hungry and cold, the children told police they'd wandered off to play and returned to the RV park to find their parents' truck gone, McDonald said.

It's unclear how long the children had been left alone, and police told WBBH that it appears the family was living out of a truck filled with syringes and old food.

Both parents were charged with abandonment without great harm, a third-degree felony under Florida law.

I've been teaching for 3 years. I've reported abuse I want to say about 25 times or so. My job is relate to the kids and get them to open up to me. 9 times out of 10 the reason their grades suffer and they coded as "at risk" is because something has taken a turn for the worse at home. I write reports daily about my findings. Actually reporting real abuse I would say around 25 times. Reporting other problems, ie a parent leaving the house or parents abusing each other, I've reported way to many times to count.

Well damn..then you have a real clue and my hat is off to you! Thank you for all you do for these kids!! I mean that 😉

This disturbs me:

"and THEN..the five year old's teachers and some neighbors came forward."

Sounds like that insanity should have never made it to your driveway.

Thank God it did--you saved them from that woman-- but it's unsettling how many people do "mind their own business."

It's wrong-- I don't think I'll ever understand that inclination.

I only read the OP ... but, I heard about it.

It is very sad ... more sadder to me though, are all the other ones who aren't as lucky.

The whole thing is sad ..... I think her home life was all fucked up too. Who knows, she might have been suffering from Postpartum and because her husband was abusive, she never was able to get help.

I will they would do interviews after-the-fact with cases like this .... so we can actually see if the person was really certifiable or uncontrollably livid, or what?

What's really really scary to me ..... a lot of the times, they give these children back to the parent, after a period of time.

UPDATE: The bitch is charged with 3 counts of FIRST DEGREE attempted murder

The woman who drove her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean, endangering her three children until rescuers charged into the water to pull them out, has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, authorities in Florida said Friday.

The woman, Ebony Wilkerson, 32, was also charged with three counts of aggravated child abuse, Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson said.

As she steered into heavy surf, investigators said, she locked the doors of the minivan, rolled up the windows and told the children to close their eyes and go to sleep.

—You??re supposed to protect your children at all costs,?? the sheriff said. —You??re not supposed to be trying to kill your children.??

The children — a 3-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl — were taken to a hospital but not seriously hurt, and are in protective custody.

Investigators said that the woman had tried to stop the rescuers from helping the children. They said that one witness reported seeing one child on Wilkerson??s lap, fighting her for control of the wheel. The 10-year-old later told investigators that their mother took them to the beach —so we could die,?? the sheriff??s department said.

Wilkerson, who is more than six months pregnant, was removed Friday from a hospital, where she had been undergoing mental health evaluation, and was on her way to jail, the sheriff said.

Accounts from the days before the van went into the water suggest that Wilkerson was in deep distress.

Deep distress, just like child abuse DOES NOT entitle someone to kill their kids, or be a serial killer. Most people get over it. I laugh when I see those as an excuse. She should've just brought her kids to her sister's home....and jumped in the ocean alone.

Oh oh...will I be bashed by the angelic dxper's for saying that?

This is standard for the majority of states as depicted by the U.S. Family Services Laws:
Those who are mandated to report child abuse:

Chiropractors, dentists, emergency medical personnel, licensed practical nurses, medical examiners, mental health professionals, osteopaths, pharmacists, physicians, physicians?? assistants, psychologists, registered nurses, surgeons, and any other health care providers;
Hospital administrators, interns, and resident physicians in any hospital in the state;
School superintendents, principals, headmasters (independent schools), teachers, librarians, guidance counselors, and other individuals regularly employed by, or contracted and paid by, school districts or independent schools to provide student services;
Childcare workers, police officers, probation officers, social workers, and clergy members;
Residential and non-residential camp administrators, counselors, and owners; and
Employees, contractors, and grantees of the Agency of Human Services who have contact with clients.

However, this can also lead to parents pitting themselves against eachother during custody battles etc and innocent parents being brought into the VERY COSTLY system due to revenge.

So its damned if you do and damned if you don't. But at least now, the abusers get brought in for questioning whereas in the past, the parent's word was king...

Not exactly. There are more spiteful women out there than there are men. The classic "false accusations" by the spiteful parent they are already onto and have ways to weed them out. Once it's proven it's a false accusation mommy dearest gets her ass put in jail and loses custody.
Went through a few of those^^ cases. Was happy to oblige too. 🙂

But wasn't she pregnant?

Anyway, glad they nabbed her. It's just a shame that now our tax dollars will be used to support her in prison.

There are so many ways I think prisons should be reformed, at least for the worst apples...but nooo, apparently Westerners think it's a human rights violation to not have prisons be like hotels. smh!

At least the children are away from that animal.

Well the abuse from my parents went mostly unnoticed, but this particular instance was due to another student. I don't know if they have to report it. I went to private school as well, do they have to follow the same rules?

Ohh-- yeah, I'm *really* sorry to hear that. :/

Regarding another student, idk how they would determine the he said/she said aspect.

But abuse, generally speaking-- absolutely they have to follow the same rules.

If she's suffering from a mental illness, then she's not of sound mind, therefore not in control of what she's doing, by any reasonable (and legal) standard.

The question, in such cases, is whether she had the ability to form mens rea (intent), as required by law (in most places with legal systems based on English law.) Mental illness would interfere with or influence this ability.

The application of an insanity plea is not static, however, but if mental illness is confirmed, then you'd be looking at something other than bona-fide murder.

First Degree Attempted Murder. She is just fine the bitch isn't getting away with a lame insanity plea. I guarantee it. 😉

This is how my mom, my sister and I all are. We won't think twice to dive in to defend someone who is helpless and taking a beating. There are some instances, like that kind and when I'm pissed, where I honestly have no thought or care to my own safety.
