it's funny how the media filters news cos i have heard nothing good about obama from actually speaking to americans whereas europe is overjoyed according to the news! and also according to the news, the american people are thrilled too!

having said that, we are only seeing and hearing happy black people on telly.

now i don't believe anything any more.

in retrospect i can see that the media in europe as a whole jumped on obama's bandwagon about 3 weeks ago and mccain has been trashed more or less, along with sarah palin.

so anyhow, i couldn't be bothered to read those other threads on the subject. (i'm busy and important don't you know, LOL). could someone enlighten me as to the real feeling in the US about this man?

as with most issues in the US, ppl are highly divided in their opinions of obama. some are thrilled, some are terrified, and some just don't give a shit. although he does have a tendency to provoke extreme reactions. the love vs. hate thing is more common than the not caring.

as for mccain and palin being trashed...a lot of ppl (not all) felt that mccain and those who managed his campain made a lot of errors in judgment. palin being the biggest one. she is commonly regarded as an idiot to be quite honest (not without reason).

he only won because ppl hate bush and obama had a really great marketing compaign going and he knows how to work the crowd and is charismatic and had a great slogan. it's pretty disgusting when instead of saying how good of a president he's going to be all the media was talking about him being black and race relations. a president should be chosen based on experience and what he has to offer and not because of his color or gender or what celebrities endorse him. the stock market has the worst after election performance ever. they're not sure about his economic policy. and all media is saying that the sale's of obama's book went up gromendously. was this election a publicity stunt to sell more of his books—?

all of that "Marketing campaign. Bush hating. Book sales." was on yahoo earlier today. i'm not that creative to make up stuff like that. of course "deserves a chance to make some changes! " -- that's what he promised to do!!! and that's what expected of him. that was the platform of his campaign. let's hope he'll make some.
"I'm happy he won!" - i'm happy you're happy😉

People are totally in love with this man so much that it is frightening.

Yes, I def. do see an almost cult-like following behind Obama, and while I am more than overjoyed that he has won the election, this sort of unwaivering support for anyone, I don't care for whom, is really frightening. I would venture to guess that most people who voted for Obama, didn't know a thing about his voting record or stance on the issues. And it's scary how you can't even bring up anything negative about him, without being painted with a wide stroke of the brush as a racist. I don't get it. I would often bring up these things to my b/f (who is incidentally black) and when I asked him what about Obama's policies he agreed with, he couldn't really say (which means he only voted for him because he is half black). And I think this is also biased. How can you be against discrimination, yet vote for someone solely based on the color of their skin. Though, he did have a good point when he said that it gives young minorities hope. And who can argue against that?

The last 2 elections before this, the President was not chosen by the people; the elections were stolen. And though I do believe that Obama is the man America wanted, we were only given him because the Powers That Be allowed it, because it also fits within their plan.

Umm, while I do think the government has been behind some really unthinkable things (I read a book that listed in great detail each of the incidences of neocolonialism this great country of ours has been involved in around the world, from supporting violent military coups and wars to acts tantamount to genocide), I think it's irresponsible to think of everything in terms of some conspiracy theory, at least not until there is some evidence of things going on behind the scenes.

"And I think this is also biased. How can you be against discrimination, yet vote for someone solely based on the color of their skin."

There have actually been studies on this. We just discussed it in one of my media classes. It is 70% based on how someone looks that dictates how others subconsciously react to them and either accept or reject them. This has been true for every president, but a good example is Kennedy vs. Nixon. This election occurred just as televisions were in every home. Kennedy was charismatic, better looking and comfortable on TV. Nixon appeared uncomfortable, nervous and old on television. He lost.

Naturally, people are attracted to candidates who are "more like them," physically at the subconscious and idealogically at the conscious. Which explains, in part, why we've had two centuries of white presidents.

I'm not saying this is a huge factor in how everyone chooses who to vote for, or that it's obvious in every election, but it definitely has an affect, whether we are aware of it or not.

It's nothing new, he's just a politician and this is what they do... everyone seems to have forgotten that.

I agree. Which is something I have continually brought up to people. Politicians are tantamount to actors. Which is why you have to look at their voting record and not just listen to their rhetoric (and even then, their voting record is only an indication of the image they want to project to voters). And I also agree that the media has been engaged in a love affair with Obama, but that's still not an indication that something is going on behind the scenes. I'm not saying that it's impossible (because if you really think about it, the government is going to do whatever is necessary to protect U.S. interests around the world and is strategic about everything, almost like writing history before it actually happens, but if you continually make claims like that without evidence, it's like crying wolf.

LOL!!!!!!

You know, I find it interesting how people love to belittle someone who get "positive" attention verses negative attention. It completely blows my mind. Anyone who is known to be popular or well liked by masses of people, there are distractors. I'm not calling anyone out -- I did that enough today offline 😉 People soooo hate me right now because I called them on there bull-shit, but thats okay! I'll still sleep well tonight, I just didn't make too many friends today 😉

Anyhow, I think its sad how we as human beings give congrads to negative propraganda verses positive "anything". *shakes head* but thats fine, all the negative stuff makes the movement stronger, if you know what I mean 🙂

This time, I felt like my vote REALLY counted. THe last election, I felt like many people felt in 2000 -- the vote was shit, all for nothing. But NOW, I know that my vote was responsible for electing someone that I wanted to be president.

This is someone I can call my president. He's not the CEO of some company or whatever, he runs the country because "we" (Obama/ Biden supporter) put him there .......

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! When I said that I got goodebumps!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

""And it's scary how you can't even bring up anything negative about him, without being painted with a wide stroke of the brush as a racist. I don't get it.""

- I agree that this does happen at times, and it is unfair.

However, I take issue with the following:

""I would often bring up these things to my b/f (who is incidentally black) and when I asked him what about Obama's policies he agreed with, he couldn't really say (which means he only voted for him because he is half black). ""

It seems here that you are saying that if one does not vote based on issues, then they must be voting based on superficial characteristics alone. Equivalent to me saying that female Hillary supporters who are not familiar with her policies voted for her based solely on gender. Could it not be that said voters succumbed to subliminal messages and/or associate the Democratic party with "anti-war, pro-choice, help the poor" imagery, while connecting the opposites with Republicans? My conclusion sets low expectations for the Hillary supporters. Whether or not they met them does not take away from the fact that I set them, and to do so is condescending.

To me, the above immediate assumption could also reveal that my own judgment might be as misguided as that of some others.

Cappy, I'm just skeptical and have been for a long time. But, of course, I hope things do change. Only time will tell what Obama will really do.

Satori, I can appreicate that 🙂 And I understand it, you have a right to wonder what the hell all the cuss is about when you know 🙂 I want to see what he's going to do as well. Thats why I'm not ripping at him before he gets there, you know what I mean? There are people on here (you know who the hell you are) that couldn't wait 24 hours before they started hitting him with their gloves off.

hahaha, it hasn't been 24 fycking hours yet, people should be ashamed LOL!!! He just got over 300 electorial votes, it just happened! And already people are trying to knock him out. I mean what is going on here —??

I understand what you're saying, but there are other reasons why this is probably the case (he pretty much acknowledged it). And really, while it honestly does bother me a little bit that my b/f would vote along color lines as I disagree with any form of discrimination (my work has centered around peace and reconciliation through doing away with ingroup bias), I do understand how significant this is to him where it comes from. And maybe it is the case, that in order for people to become more color blind in their relations with others, people first needed to see that this country represents everyone, irregardless of the color of their skin. Maybe now, we can all learn to see beyond what is on the surface (though, knowing how humans are programmed, I sadly doubt it)
