I was recently the only witness of an accident. The guy was in serious trouble by the looks of things and there was no-one to be seen.

I knew straight away that I had to do something but in all honesty it was more like 'Shit, I have to do something because there's no-one else around' and not so much a noble gesture.

Had there been someone else there, I probably would have driven on and hoped they would deal with it. As soon as there are other witnesses, you get swept along by the group consciousness and the urge is to leave the scene as soon as possible.

I agree. That was someone's father, brother or son after all. It IS sad that our basic human instinct makes us shy away from a stranger's urgent need and even if we feel that we would be the one to help someone in this situation, when you are in the moment, the instinct dictates your response.

I am sure that had someone known the guy personally, they would've helped out immediately because you then get the reverse psychology kicking in and the instinct will dictate immediate action.

There are always anolmalies though. Everyday heroes and good samaritans do exist and they are very special people indeed.

That story about seeing an accident, Agent is the same one Roxi told me when I was debating about the whole "Dog Art Display" ... exact story.

And speaking of ....... the theory about that Dog in which the artist was proving existed with humans to be cruel, where people will just go about their day, unconcerned about suffering .... has been thoroughly proven yet again within this situation with this injured man.

"I'm sure they would have helped, but they didn't want to be late for work."

There may be some truth to this, but obviously not everyone who passed by this guy would have been late for work.

A woman in canada shaved here head for a cancer charity, and raised a good sum of money for it. She was FIRED when she went back to work that day, they told her to never come back.

Does anyone know exactly where this was?

If you watch the video carefully. It looks like a planned hit and run. Seeing as it was a high crime area this doesn't surprise me at all. As for the excuse of being labeled a "snitch". Bullshit. Pure bullshit. The person/people who ran him over wouldn't care at all if someone had helped him because the deed was done. Those bystanders were afraid to do anything because they were afraid of the consequences that would have followed when really there were none.

i didn't want to watch the video. this happened in new york city?

a couple of months ago my mom and i saw an old man get hit by a car. the driver stopped immediately, and then we and every driver and pedestrian in the surrounding area ran over to help him and make sure no one else hit him. all whipped out their cells to dial for help.

an off duty police car cruised through, both officers briefly surveyed the scene, and they kept going. that was one of the most shocking things i've ever witnessed.

scorpsuperior: i think the fact that everyone had the same response to the incident in this way is probably quite unique. it must have felt good to have been a positive help to the old man. it's just a shame there aren't more prominent news stories about these kind of incidents to balance out the more shocking ones.

i would love to create a news channel that only had good news. there seems to be so many bad things in the world that it would be good to have a constant reminder that there is still alot of good in the world too.
