I lived in Japan. I am not Japanese.

There is a lot of truth with what Layna describes about the culture. Japan was closed off from the world from 1653 -1869 and in many respects they have maintained this figuratively. The Japanese have a very particular mind frame that exists and it is very secretive and subtle, yet ingrained in them.

It is a systematic way of thinking called Ishin- denshin and refers to a passive form of shared understanding. Ishin-denshin is traditionally perceived by the Japanese as sincere, silent communication. Things are just "known" between the Japanese and it is almost impossible to break away from this.
Even Japanese people who live outside of Japan, will immerse themselves in their culture because it is viewed as superior. They will NEVER admit this, or say it our loud. It will be the exact opposite actually. They use extreme humility and self-deprecating comments. It is not how they really think.

If you are a foreigner you will be celebrated for it. Different is interesting and the Japanese can learn from different. But what is learned is meant to be brought back or absorbed into the collective.... because individuality is oppressed. And it is oppressed because Ishin- denshin wouldn't be as effective in maintaining the status quo.

Doing business in Japan is a mindfuck. Nothing is what it seems on the surface. Kyoto & Osaka are magical. The history is rich.

For me seems like their society didnt lost the notion of respect and justice.

Western societies are loosing it all.

The justice part is where you are wrong; yes, they have very strict laws but unless it has changed, the reason why few rapes are reported is due to the way they handle those cases, which is based on interpretation of what happened while disregarding incriminating evidence. Because Japan is a patriarchal society and one that doesn't much care for the individual, they will always take the male's interpretation over the female victim's. The only time where the male will have to suffer something is when a crazy amount of people start to report it as what happened with the "Rape Club" at Waseda University, and even thwn, there will be some jerk who will make a chauvinistic remark like the judge who said that, "If you look at the way the girls are dressed, they're asking for it".

The fact that they have a section of the train that's supposed to be for women only is also very telling. If a Japanese woman goes nack to Japan after divorcing her not Japanese husband and takes their kids with her, because she is Japanese, if the kids care to see their father, they'll have to wait 'til they are adults because the Japanese government will prevent their father from ever being able to see them and/or gain custody of them. Really, I love Japan to pieces, it is my favorite country, but I'm not blind to the government's faults.
