I just wanted to run this past you guys-- since you're the more talkative bunch on dxp.... I pretty much have my own ideas, but I wanted to get your take:

Essentially, I love my job. The people are nice, the work is somewhat challenging-but I don't feel overwhelmed, I get name recognition on work that I've done...where in larger companies I would be overlooked, and there is minimal "drama" (you know the kind of bureaucracy that you find in larger companies).

One of my co-workers just left my office in tears. We just got paid today and she realized what kind of pay-cut she took. As a matter of fact, I realized what kind of pay-cut I'm accepting!! I could be making MUCH more... it moved me a bit..

Anyway, I don't have any financial problems... I'm not in debt.. and I own property.. got the 401K/benefits(yadda, yadda)... in a nutshell, I'm doing well with what I have. My question to you is.. given what you know.. if you were in a similar predicament.. would you leave in pursuit for a new job.. just to make more money?

Primegen,

You brought up some good points. Thanks for sharing. The thing is, my job allows me to work very flexible hours and I set my own delivery dates (for the most part). I thought about moving to NYC and getting one of those high paying jobs- but as I imagine... the more money, the higher the stakes. I don't want some large corporation looking at the fact that I'm unmmarried and have no children.. and think I'll sacrafice my life in order to be the company's work-horse. I agree.. a job is a means to live.

My fear is to hop from company to company.. and when a company looks at my resume, they'll think, "Oh, does this person have any sense of corporate loyalty?" *shrugs* Perhaps corporate loyalty is a joke... and that if I'm happy in a place and don't "need" anything at the moment-- I should stay put and sip the pina colada. I'd hate to step into a situation with a new company where the job literally stinks.. just so I can increase my bottom line.

I'm not Aqua as you know, but I want to answer on this topic. If you don't want to read it just jump to the next topic, I don't care...

I think your problem is not your high or low payment, but the type of work you are doing. You said that you are not overwhelmed with your job. This means one thing: Your job is boring. Boring job is as much bad as a job that makes you slave. Payment has nothing to do with your current state. If you like the job, if you like the company, then f**ck it. I personally don't care about payment (to some degree) if job is what I want.

If I were you, I would start looking for another type of job or start building my own business.
