I go to a training gym instead of a big box. Got a few 5Ks and a Spartan Sprint under my belt. Working my way up to a Tough Mudder.

My gym touts everything in the Forks Over Knives doc and I grew up with everything from the other camp being crammed down my throat. Figure if I aim for somewhere in the middle, I can't screw up too bad, but yes... it's the kidney thing I'm concerned about.

Note- it's not a shot at anyone in the medical field per se, but people seem to think that medical = all knowing of this topic. The reality is that a lot don't know shit. It's kinda sad since so many current diseases are related to poor diet and lack of any sort of exercise.
Remember, there aren't fat doctors, nurses, medical assistants by coincidence.

You'll be fine. The body doesn't necessarily go after muscle stores unless you're like OUT out of the other resources. It hits the carb stores, then goes to fat, THEN protein.
If you keep a balanced resistance training routine in with your cardio, it should all balance out.

I do 5-7 miles once a week and sprints. I did a 10 mile run and next is a half then a whole marathon. I'm not the fastest running in the world but I love running. My thoughts are at ease.
Also I started weight lifting less and increasing varied cardio. I think that gave me the endurance for the run.
