For me for sure, the biggest thing was understanding that the world does not revolve around my insane emotions.

Agreed.
It is very difficult to deal with such energy and urges but it can be done, it is possible, at least I believe in it.

I think I have finally begun to gain control of my emotions. It is a liberating feeling. Emotional situations have felt like life or death for me sometimes.

But I have accepted that I will always have an intense energy

May I ask you how tight (how many degrees) is your Pluto/Moon aspect? Thanks.

It's about 7 degrees

Oh, it is actually very wide. Maybe you have some other inner planets in (tighter) aspect to Pluto or some heavy 8th House? Perhaps your Moon is in water or fire sign, that could enhance it, too.
