Your dreams are from your subconscience. They are what come to you when you're at your most relaxed state of mind. You already thinking about that person when you're awake(daydreaming) so your mind doesn't need to bring him up when you're asleep. Stop thinking about him so much and you might start to dream about him.
I wish i could stop thinking about him! trust me I really do, but still cant. Thanks for your input, very helpful.

I'm the same as you, I always think about my father,, but never ever dream about him.

In other hand I always dream about my childhood friend, and that's weird because I don't think about him /:
I've read how mother have lost their young children, and can never dream of them but everyone else does.

Ironically I had a dream of an old childhood friend last night too! She had a weird looking called Stanton that looked like a toy, and could talk! 😄

why , you want to dream of him?

I think it's normal that you don't dream of him if you think of him all the time : dreams IMO come from things that you have let go off a bit, if he is constantly in your "work memory", he can't be used by your "recycling memory".
Cause I'd like to see what happens in my dreams with him.

I have to wait for my mind to let go of him.

I agree that it seems to work like that.

I usually prefer not to dream about someone I'm missing and have it disrupt my sleep. I have to make sure that I process what I need to mentally during the day to spare my sleep. If I try too hard not to think about the person, they're more likely to be in my dreams, sometimes in very sad ways - I have woken up crying a few rare times, which was awful.

When it's very painful, like a relationship ending that I didn't want to end, I deliberately allow myself to think about the person for however many minutes during the day, then I try to do other things and let it go, usually several times during a day if needed during the most acute times. Not always easy to do, but it helps me to function and not have the loss ruin my life.

When Im busy I focus at the task at had and he is far from my mind. My thoughts are happy ones of out time together. But at the end of the day, when I am at home, he's constantly on my mind as this is the time we would spend together. I would lay in bed before sleep and still think of him. No wonder I cant dream of him. Like with everything, I just need more time to pass. 🙂

Yes, more time passing should help. After one of my breakups, I would always think of my ex around the same time of day, when I used to hear from him (when he would usually call me). It takes a while to break that kind of association. It makes sense that for now you're thinking a lot about him and working through all of that. I wish you all the best with the process. 🙂

I found that if I try to suppress my conscious thoughts of someone (example, someone i'm obsessed with and trying to forget) this ends up pushing thoughts of this person into my subconscious and this causes me to dream about the person i'm trying to move on from. Once they're in your dreams--they're deeply embedded in your mind. Why would you ever want your ex there?
I didnt know that! Thanks for the info 🙂

I really agree with this theory.

But I have always thought and dreamt more of my mother than my father.

Maybe the relationship between me and my father was/is just ok as it is. And between me and my mother there must have been lots of unhandled issues.
