Sounds like making Velvet Cake. Halfway through mixing, you're looking at this blood red batter and thinking.. I'm not so sure this was a great idea.. (queasy).. ; p
the red colored chocolate cake? i love the stuff, but if its undercooked and juicy in the middle, more stains. lol and yes, i cook my cakes juicy and my brownies juicier

black frosting is hard for me to make! it always comes out grainy looking and i'm always afraid of using too much of the black dye because then you start tasting it

Wilton's icing dyes. They are the best for true colors. Pack of 12 gels. Around 12 dollars. I use them for fondant all the time. And yes, I have tie-dyed mitts when I'm done. 😄
