Threads like this make me nostalgic for video games. Wish I could still enjoy them as much as I did back in the day, but I just don't. The moment's gone, life goes on
I can enjoy them in very short bursts especially playing with other people, but it's not the same. I have played a little bit of N64 with a friend of mine recently and had some fun. Mario Kart and Perfect Dark. He's got a few old school systems. N64, SNES, Atari, and Gamecube

Kazuya was a great boss villain. I remember losing to him 27 times in a row but I didn't mind because his stage music was so good. Dramatic in a J-drama sort of way yet the music implies Kazuya's inner motivations and internal conflict. Such was the Playstation's hardware limitations at the time, background stages, lighting, music and character design were crucial for creating atmosphere and intrigue around the game's story. For a fighting game which are usually light on narrative to begin with, Tekken 2 really got it right which paved the way for its seminal sequel.
Then when you finally beat the game you're treated to this. Enduring all those beatdowns was worth it in the end. Landscape Under the Ghost Kaminano
Bless you @roti and thank you 😊🙏
I kept forgetting to respond to your post here.
I'm out and about so I'll post now though.
I remember when Tekken 2 was released in
the arcade and then for the Sony PlayStation.
Tekken 2 and Virtua Fighter were beautiful
beautiful games to see be released because
of the new graphics at the time. Tekken was
easier for me to get into.
Tekken always had good music too. Prodigy, band
from the UK i love influenced TEKKEN 3 soundtrack
from what I've read about the game before.
And the soundtrack was also good.
But yeah I agree with every single thing you
say about Tekken, the story and everything.
Plus Kazuya wasn't necessarily a "good"
character either as he was the protagonist
and that was very unique for the time.
He wasn't trying to save the world.
Just throw his father off a cliff 😶...
The series really did do some unique things
for the series and fighting game genre as a whole
Thank you for sharing. I’m glad I’m not alone in having a deep appreciation for this series.
That intro movie takes me back, no matter how many times I saw it already, I’d let it play to the end.
You immediately feel a sense of what this game is about from that intro. The final shot is beautiful of Angel embracing Kazuya at the top floor of a skyscraper overlooking a black winter nights sky..
Tekken 2 was dark af when you consider that Heihachi was the protagonist. I found that strange as a kid. But I guess not everything is black and white was the lesson.
I was glad Kazuya got added to Smash Bros roster. He’s finally getting his dues, it can’t always be about Jin 😚
The music has always been solid throughout the series. Perhaps after Tekken 5 it became more generic to suit the times, the emphasis being on competitive gameplay (e-sport) over everything.
Tekken 3’s OST is notable. Super good. That big beat, trip-hop, guitar driven, Prodigy sound. Amazing presentation, a leap forward in style and gameplay.
One final thing, Netflix will release a Tekken anime in August covering the events between Tekken 2 and 3. Check out the trailer ✌🏼
EXACTLY EXACTLY, @roti. You have it all in one*!!!
I'm supposed to be doing some things over here but your message,
It's just so so on point I had to respond! AND I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT
THE INTRO FOR TEKKEN 2. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN.
I replay it even when I come here to this thread lol.
It just bring me back in time in the 90s that I can't even fully express.
And if I try to express I feel it some how dwindles the meaning and importance of it all.
I'll just say the smell and beauty of that time runs through that intro and that's why I always return.
What you say about things not being so black and white too --oh my goodness, yes.
I think Tekken got it right too because looking at a fighting game
from the story perspective, which even around this time it was
extremely vague, but Namco did a great job bringing it close to our reality where
everyone has a shadow side and personal imperfections! No one is squeaky clean.
And even if you are, you still have things you are working on about yourself. That was Tekken.
Do you remember when Jin won Tekken 5 and then became ruler around Tekken 6?
He started to look just like his father or maybe even his grandfather when we all
thought he was better than both of them!
And the music you were saying around
Tekken 6. I agree 100% +. The music before that was more...
revolutionary because it was DIFFERENT and took on new sound
than the other fighting games. Granted, STIII finally decided to explore
different sound too (DNB/HOUSE/HIPHOP ETC) But both SF and TEKKN sound bland a bit now.
Also too, Tekken I think had to take a bit of time to shine because of
games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were just on top at the time..
But as the years went on, those two just lost their way where TEKKEN just stayed
to its roots and improved on it.. Tekken is definitely my favorite out of the bunch.
EDIT: Oh YESS I seen I seen 🙂 the Trailer. It looks so nice. TEKKEN 3 I love so much too. 1997❤️

Lol I didn’t mean to take up your time but thank you for taking the time to respond.
Tekken 2’s intro has depth. Just from a few seconds we get to know the vibe of each character introduced to us. It’s very of its time (the music, graphics) yet timeless.
There’s little hints in the first Tekken that Kazuya isn’t what he seems and isn’t a hero. He has a secret costume revealing his devil form. And well his ending lol. It’s those details that made Tekken standout. The director of 1 and 2 also worked on Virtua Fighter. Namco wanted Tekken to be a low cost alternative to VF with personality.
Yes Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter took most of the attention away for awhile, Tekken 7 redeemed itself adding new game mechanics & guest characters. The story is retconned to hell but it is what it is.
Tekken used real martial artists motion capture to bring authenticity to its games. This was so cool to me and perfectly synchronised to the music.
The intro to Tekken Tag Tournament truly felt like we were entering a new century. It was exciting to witness the leap in graphical power and creativity. It still looks and sounds good today. My boy Kazuya reclaiming his poster boy status from Jin once again 😅

Alright, that animated RPG text box is dope.
My parents got me a PS2 two months before my birthday that I wasn't allowed to open until then. Tekken Tag was one of the launch titles. I knew where it was hidden but couldn't resist opening it and playing the game before putting it back like nothing happened. I was just in awe experiencing playing it for the first time as wrong I was for going against my parents wishes.
They call Tekken 4 the black sheep of the series, so many under appreciated innovations that were subsequently removed from future games. That said the atmosphere was something else. A smaller, intimate game.
Authentic Sky was one of my favourite stages. The sound of the wind whistling as the helicopter hovers nearby, circling the perimeter of the roof of the high rise tower. The Roman marble statues that crumble at first contact and the drum sounds that come crashing after the first round.
I like this a lot too class="bqfade">click to expand

The intro to Tekken Tag Tournament truly felt like we were entering a new century. It was exciting to witness the leap in graphical power and creativity. It still looks and sounds good today. My boy Kazuya reclaiming his poster boy status from Jin once again 😅![]()

I like this a lot too![]()

1997💖
1998💖
1999💖
Okay...
First, let me say...
I cannot express fully how much STREET FIGHTER III impacted me.
Both Tekken and Street Fighter entered into their 3rd Phase
in their respectable series in 1997. But when SF entered 3,
It was such a special moment.
Street Fighter *FINALLY* went to 3.
There was no more "Turbo" or "Super".
I was so excited because I was SO beyond
playing the same game with the same faces.
There were so many iterations of SFII in the 90s and I wanted to move on...
I remember reading about 3 for the first time in my gaming magazines
and yet I still couldn't believe it. But what I saw, the graphics were gorgeous.
My first time laying eyes on the game live was inside my cousins arcade
at his college campus. They had Street Fighter III New Generation
and it was such a special moment to behold; this was sometime in 1997.*
This arcade also had Street Fighter Alpha but I was not interested at all.
My cousin played it but I didn't. I didn't want to go backwards and
play characters from 2 again. I was done with all of that.
I wanted to explore something new and brave and I felt that
CAPCOM did this with SFIII. It was beyond appropriate and felt right.
The new characters, the new mechanics, and the MUSIC*; I loved it all.
The music though, especially the music, with the HIP HOP, JUNGLE,
DRUM AND BASS, HOUSE, and JAZZ; they did such an amazing job with the OST because
it helped give the series this underground vibe that felt accurate.
Then in 1999 --oh boy,
I first played Third Strike in 1999 in the arcade when I was going through
some pretty bad depression. I don't remember reading anything about
3rd Strike so I didn't even know it was coming. When I saw it for the
first time on the machine it was breathtaking, everything about it was.
It lifted the depression I was going through at the time for a few.
It was just so polished and yet again the music had a huge impact. I loved the
remixes for each stage as each round started. This game was everything.
Also, let me say something about the Arcade scene around this time. I loved
the arcade scene. It was underground but it was welcoming. The mixture of
warm hearted people from all around. You had black, white, Latino, anything
but all of that didn't matter. It was just a place where anyone was welcomed
because you were into games and into this new technology games seemed
to be going in at the time. The random surprises as far as releases were icing on the cake.![]()
![]()
I was so big in the UK sound too like DRUM and BASS and JUNGLE and I loved that
Capcom incorporated that sound within Street Fighter. This mix I'm listening to
while I type this, It's not official from the game but it's a nice remix. I love it I love it.
