Thanks guys!!!!

XYGen - Pastels DO indeed fade and smudge. To prevent this, they need to be immediately stored under glass in a frame or a fixative spray needs to be used. I actually like using firm hold hairspray, but there are expensive artist sprays as well. Some artists don't like the effect of hairspray and it took me a bit to find one I liked which turned out to be Suave Touchable Hold - Firm.

Also, the pastel painting above was done on Strathmore 400 Series Pastel Paper and Mungyo Gallery Hard and Semi Soft Pastel Sticks (not oil pastels, but traditional ones). 🙂 You can also use toothed drawing or watercolor paper, but I wouldn't recommend canvas.

Pastels as SOOOOOOO much fun! It's like using fancy chalk and the blending and intense color you can get is UNREAL. Also, you work dark to light as opposed to most other mediums and that's proved fun for me.

Enjoy!!!!

I personally like how each part of the frame first stood out and then got blended in by the next photo.. amazing!!

I cant work with colors, its like I dont have the skills to blend them properly or the way that would actually satisfy me. Instead i'm happy with just pencil art or sketching. My goal was to end up doing caricatures of people, or thats what I wanted to do last year when I joined art school for a short stint. Never could complete it 😢
