I have an abnormally high heart rate when I work out. 170-175 bpm is what I will average over the course of a cardio routine. And I'm not talking 5 minutes here or there. Whether it's 30 min or 2 hours, i'm comfortable at 170. The longer I workout, the more it dips, due to fatigue, but rarely do I go below 160.
This is considered very high and I don't know if it's just "normal to me" or problematic?
The funny thing is, when I was a kid, I couldn't run. I was never diagnosed with asthma or anything but whenever we would play outside, anything that involved running, I was almost always "it." If the distance to "base" was more than 50 metres, my lungs would literally cease and feel like they were about to burst out of my chest. It was always VERY scary and it'd take a good 5 minutes before I could breathe normally again.
I got used to it and would stop running whenever I felt I was pushing my limits. By the time I was in middle school, it went away. One day I could run without any trouble.
So my question is, does anyone else have an elevated heart rate? I can imagine that if it's high when working out, it's probably high in general. I'm wondering if it's a problem or if it's just "normal to me?"
I actually have the opposite problem, a very low heart rate! Cant really tell you much about why you have a high heart rates but this could be why you dont seem to be losing weight when you work out (in your other post.).
Im sure that Mr Fitness can explain better then me but there is a cetain heartrate (based on weight/height/ages) that you need to work at to burn fat and if you have a high heart rate then you are probably working too hard as you need it to be lower to be in "fat burning zone" which i think is roughly about 150, someone correct me if i am wrong (which i could be, been a while since i exercised!)
