Do Leos really like attention that much? (A myth?)

I feel like it's a total myth. I know many shy and reserved Leos believe it or not. They don't particularly like the spotlight as much as we people assume. Most Leos don't even talk that much either (especially the men).
I'm a Gemini and I'm usually MORE perky and enthusiastic with my emotional expressions than they are lol So Leos, what are your thoughts on this? Are you tired of people assuming that you love the spotlight and the attention?

Sun signs = what's *inside.*

Sometimes we never get to see that. Sometimes, the desire to "shine" goes unfulfilled for whatever reason. But it still burns brightly inside.

exactly,just keeps on burning inside😉
but what about the ascendant, aren't we supposed to act like our rising sign more than our sun sign ( while tackling the world in general, at least )

My mother is a Leo rising as well and with her it's really problematic, she thinks respect is a right not something earned by way of behaviour. No matter what she does or how badly behaved she is she expects to be treated with respect and for the other person to sort of bow down/concede to her. As much as I want to judge I know that with a Leo rising I must actually be the same way:s

That could be from her rising. I wouldn't necessarily give it full credit though - due to other aspects and life experience. I think respect is a mutual relationship and cannot be established until both parties respect one another. You can't expect respect without giving your own honest respect. Everyone deserves an amount of respect until they earn more or lose it, personally. But that's not definitive or anything but my small outlook.

None of the Leo's I know are loud and boisterious nor want the spotlight, though they may find themselves in it naturally without effort and once in a spotlight that they are happy with they shine even more brightly. Most are reserved, calm and serene. I like attention, but not necessarily obvious attention and I have to want your attention and have respect for you. I was out with family at the weekend, my sisters (taurus) /sister in law (aries) are very lively, in your face, type of people and were having a grand old time - what you would expect a leo to be like if you were to believe the hype, I on the other hand was quite quiet and calm as usual(not the leo persona that's given off) - however, EVERYONE seemed to want to approach me - my sister said I'm like a magnet just standing there drawing people to it 🙂

The ascendant thing is interesting. The shy Leos in my close circle all have earth or water ascendants (my father, my two male cousins, and my good male friend). Would that make them shy away from the spotlight/attention of others? I also know two leo females who are shy but I don't know their birth time and asking for it would be kinda awkward since we're not THAT close yet hehe

I agree. Leos have that special something that draws people's attention to them without even trying. Some of them are completely unaware of how attractive they really appear to others. They're oblivious to their own charm and beauty and are actually surprisingly humble about themselves.

My Leo friend was shy and more reserved. We both sat in the back of the class, and she stayed to herself most of the time. Very different from what you hear about Leo's. We were both the same in that we only speak/speak up if pissed lol. She was not an "all-eyes-on-me" person at all.

Now my sisters Leo friend is a bit different, but it's not like she's looking for attention. She's just her natural high-energy self and the attention comes to her very naturally.

Aww, I went to the zoo a few weeks ago and the lions were so fascinating to watch. There was a male and a female, and the male KEPT his eyes on her every move. Wherever she went, he was soon to follow and the roar he made was absolutely terrifying. My goodness! I think everyone watching was a bit shaken and I'm sure the entire zoo heard it lol. sorry for this randomness btw.

This is a really good question. From my personal experience, I have always found male Leos in my entourage to be much calmer and quieter than female Leos. Besides this general personality distinction, I have always found both to be warm-hearted and fair/just toward others.

Personally, it's not so much attention that I desire/want but a certain respect and dare I say adoration? I like to be admired and appreciated, but not at all costs. I want to feel that I deserve the recognition that I have had, do have, or will have in the future.

What's more, I never ask for more than I'm willing to give to others. Barring extreme situations, I try to always maintain respect toward others, a smile on my face, and kindness in my heart. As a Leo, I have been known to roar and very loudly at that, but it is not something I enjoy and it is not something I partake in often. I try to avoid that side of myself as much as possible. Furthermore, I tend not to hold a grudge because in the end, I'm the one that ends up hurting more than the would-be butt of the grudge.

Very informative. Thank you!

I'm pretty shy. I only like attention when it's coming from someone I respect, admire, and cherish such as Family, friends, or lovers. Other than that, it makes me uncomfortable. I don't like being stared at in public, I don't like talking to people I don't know, and I don't go out of my way to be admired or liked.

Me too. I hate crowds and being around a lot of people UNLESS its a party! 🙂

My boyfriend is like this. He will gladly fade to the background and let others have their opportunity to shine in social situations. He definitely isn't the type to go looking for attention however if you are someone he loves, then he will not mind being showered with your attention lol

Leos are definitely not as attention-whoring as they're made out to be, especially on here. And when they are, people hone in on it a little too much and make exaggerations. I feel like people try to simplify Leos and their personalities way too much. People like to make it sound like the only things you guys care about are attention and compliments. If I were a Leo, I'd probably feel uncomfortable posting anything positive about myself on here because a bunch of people would swoop in and be all "ZOMG, you arrogant Leo son-of-a-bitch, ur so CONCEITED!" Kind of like how the Cancers can't argue with someone here without being accused of "crying" "pouting", or "being emo", and the Aquarians can't post about their personality quirks without getting the "Bitch, u r NOT a unique snowflake" speech, etc. Kind of irritating.

Of all the fire signs, the "attention whore" gold medal definitely goes to Sagittarius.

Yup 😉

Well this is an interesting one. I so completely agree on the fact that we are not attention seekers, but that it is a natural thing that overcomes us or that it just happens. We Leos are insecure but look brave on the outside. We do not want the attention, but for some reason people adore us, and i mean it not in a bad way. It's a gift, not gained by yourself or your hard work, it is a gift. As i look at my life, i have had so many times that people just loved me for being me. It's a natural gift my friends... And to be honest, we definitely admire compliments, respect and acknowledged and definitely need affection and assurance.

But if i look at my personality, i am more of a quiet person, who can be loud when having fun, but most of the time just interested in people and love to hang out with people in general. But not per se being on the front row, i even not prefer to sit on the front row.

Awww 😢
Leos have nothing to be insecure about. You guys are awesome 🙂

But since you guys do have a lot of pride in you, maybe it makes you more sensitive to the opinions and reactions of others...? I dunno.
