He is not confident at all. He has social anxiety so perhaps he also has a feminine ascendant.

I think it depends on the individual. I am a Leo Sun with Venus and Merc in Virgo. I am all Leo and everything you have read about Leos desribes me perfectly.

The Leo in me is very insecure. The Virgo in me will tell you I am insecure and ask you not contribute in any way to my insecurities.....meaning return my text messages in a timely manner.

The Leo in me will buy you tons of gifts. My Virgo placements ensure the gifts wll be practical...think tools and elctronic devices.

I agree with @GiveMeAqua about em having insecurities cause he would get SO easily offended when it is unnecessary. He was not all that confident his confidence was more like being shoved at someones face rather than just "being" confident. Gifts? I got lots of flowers but never anything on my bday or valentines.... Not one gift and we've been together for over a year. I also think they are so hesitant that they lose their chances.

On the bright side, loves to touch and shows their love through it. Ambitious. Never lazy.

I should add the only thing my ex told me he likes about me is how he feels that i "contain" him. It was not mutual ..

He just seems so slow in everything, his replies, finishing his degree, doing stuff. I have even complained to him about his replies (takes days sometimes but when we meet up he is always there) and he said that he is like that with everyone.

Is this a Mars in Virgo trait? Perhaps having to do with perfectionism? Because when he is with me I have his undivided attention and he did say that he is a "quality time" sort of person.
