I was invited to church yesterday. I am not a church goer however it was "Friends and Family day" so I went. The sermon was the same title as this thread.
Anyway, the pastor said...
Our days are numbered, our time is limited so stop wasting your time. Stop wasting your time on people who don't care about you. Stop wasting your time with things that don't concern you.
I went to Catholic school for 6 years but I do not know the Bible as well as the 2 of you. Maybe one day.
Well I am pretty sure she was saying that you are going to die one day. You can spend the rest of your life on things that don't matter or you can choose to focus your energies elsewhere.
This is one of the few times I think someone meant for their words to be taken literally.
I for one took heed but only you know if you are wasting your time on someone or something. Sometimes, it is time to move on.
wow yeah. cool thread. shame the others got a bit bible bashy on us though (JOKE)
who is this christ person. and what are these books from the bible....mark? luke— WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!!!!!
i'm not religious but i love the pastor's theme cos to me, it's about living in the moment cos you don't know when the moment ends. it's like when you have a near death experience and you emerge from it with renewed zest for being. it stops you wasting time cos you realise that time is precious and it's so precious cos we don't know how much of it we have.
random comment: i'm kinda glad that my parents are jews cos didn't jesus say something about 'suffer little children?'. i believe it was meant in a positive way....like suffer as in indulge? listen to?
well, the OLD testament is literal apparently and so i'm glad they didn't take on board the new testament cos it obviously spared me considerable abuse as a child cos they would've definitely thought it meant all children MUST suffer. mind you, they had 'spare the rod, ruin the child' instead to give them some leeway.
Thanks guys. It just seems that something so simple is so difficult to do. There are countless threads on this forum of people who simply need to let it go. Rig you are right about the near death experiences. There is a country song by Tim McGraw I think. The lyrics say " one day, I hope you get the chance to live like you are dying". If you knew your death date, I bet you would do a whole lot of things differently. While we don't know THE DATE we know there is a date. Get on with I say.
It doesn't have to be relationships. If you are at a dead end job or at least one where they simply don't appreciate you then why are you still there? Why do we waste time like we have a ton of it. We don't. Most religions believe "it was written" like God has a plan for your life. That plan has a beginning and an end. When the end comes I hope I could stand before God and say " I used every single second you gave me. I didn't waste any of it. I know it sounds really cool but whats really stopping us from doing it?

I thought it was worthy of sharing.
