fired

my best friend at work got fired today...no warning,nothing...she's doing ok...but why? is that righht? She's the one i always talk to..does she have the right to ask qiestions and have warnings or something? arg...life

hey gem, my career is in HR, so the first thing I will ask is this: is the state that you and your friend in an at-will state? If you live in an at-will state, and most states are, then no reason has to be given to end employment. Either the employee or the employer may terminate employment at any time without reason.

she has the right to ask questions, but she may not receive answers because her employer is not required to give reasons for the termination. Did she receive any severance? it kinda sucks that they did it without warning or notice since it's the last day of the month and that's when most employers do it because it's easier for records purposes.

One thing I would suggest she do since she had never been given warning or counseling is act for a letter of recommendation. And she definitely needs to take advantage of unemployment benefits.

you mean ask for a leeter of recommendation from the people who fired her? 🙂 I am afraid it might happen to me too. I might get fired next month...lol they fired somoene too last month and now my friend is down...and so am I she's my lunch buddy lol.

It's bad w/o warning...they should have notified her before..or something. 🙂 Thanks for the info

Hate that kind of thing. USUALLY it works out for the best, but hard to see that now.
