I have been single for years and he is in an on/off thing with a lady which we have talked about on occasion. Yes I knew he thought more of me but I've never entertained this with him and always told him I value his friendship. Which I do, but there aren't any sparks...even over the internet.
Leave him alone...I have done that only sending him an e-joke when a good one comes along.

I didn't tell him but he would have seen FB convo's prior to my receiving flowers and he had gone quiet before then so I think he had already seen it. I didn't feel I needed to explain myself to someone that is already seeing someone else. It was only after the fact that I realised that things really aren't going so well for him and that he was thinking way more for me.
My main focus now is keeping him as a friend and if that means letting him be to re-coup then that's what I will do
