White men experience serious difficulties when trying to flirt with me. Firstly, many of them cannot seem to distinguish my racial group. They have assumed that I am everything from First Nation (I have received very odd Facebook messages about this), Greek, Spanish, Italian to Middle-Eastern. They frequently ask, "What are you?" After they discover that I am of Indian descent, they say things like, "I don't mind an Indian wife. I love curries." This happens whenever I travel as well so I can't blame apartheid for bad manners.

When I was in High School, a friend of mine gave a speech during assembly. She said that there was only one race, the human race. I was really touched by that because our group of friends was one of the few groups that looked like an ad for Benneton. Anyway, most of the students groaned.

Outside of my family, the people who have the strongest influence in my life is a white man and a black woman. They have always made me feel like family so I know there is hope out there.

I find it interesting that some people are so caught up on appearances when someday, you will be reduced to dust and all that people will remember you for is your actions, character and how you made them feel.
