I do not proclaim to be a music genius and I have a high tolerance for most music genres (everything except extreme hard rock), however, in the past decade or so I have noticed a huge shift in where the most versatile "new" artists are being bread or originate from...which is not the US in my opinion. I find this also to be the case with actors as well. Like right now and have been for quite some time the UK is still kicking a** much harder than US, and artists from this area are not even streaming on a regular recurrent basis to the US til a year or so after they're already huge where their from. I know UK have always had some really bad artists in the past that some of it I grew up on - Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Sting, Elton John, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Led Zepplin, and lets not forget the Beetles from earlier generations before mine. But during this same time, the US also had their fair share of similar artists - Michael Jackson, Chicago, Willie Nelson, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Journey, Luther Vandross, Creed, Hall & Oates, and from earlier generations Frank Sinatra & Elvis Presley. However, now today, it seems as though the UK is leading the pack with new hot artists compared to US or any other country for that matter...Adele, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith...those 3 alone are extremely talented and just a cut above the rest and are killing today's charts abroad and here in the US.
****Disclaimer, this post is extremely biased as the only 2 new artists I've had in heavy rotation this past year is Ed Sheeran & Sam Smith...LOL!!!

What are your thoughts on the subject matter?

The UK has always been top of music. North America and Europe wise that is. Europe and especially the UK have that side of the world pretty much covered music wise, and for North America its a given they will like it. Most of everything that amounted to something came from the UK, and a decent amount of the world was influenced by the artists. I'm not saying every country doesn't have great musicians, but the UK has always had making music, touring, and showing their music to the people down to a science.

Me personally, I like other cultures of music I never get to hear on the radio. In construction for example there are also crews from Mexico and South America who play their own music brought from their homelands. I actually love it because I get to experience a new culture right in my workplace, but the older generation hates it. I don't really understand why. Its almost like nothing else is supposed to exist in America when really this country was build from many different cultures from day 1.

Best New Music......

If we assign "new" to 2014-2015, to me it seems to be Europe. Our radio stations were full with repetition of these songs (Somewhat male, somewhat white, somewhat electronic, somewhat classic/al):

2014 Am I Wrong, Norwegian, Nico & Vinz

2014 I'm an Albatraoz, DJ AronChupa, Swedish

2012-15 Don't You Worry Child, Swedish House Mafia

2013-14 Wake Me Up, DJ Avicii, Virgo
2013-14 Hey Brother, DJ Avicii
Addicted to You, Avicii

2013-14 Waves (Robin Schulz Remix), German, Taurus
2014-14 Prayer in C (Robin Schulz Remix)
2014-15 Sun Goes Down , Robin Schulz

2014, A Sky Full of Stars, Coldplay, British

2014 Lovers on the Sun, David Guetta, French, Scorpio

2014 Rather Be, Clean Bandit, British

2014 Stay with me, Sam Smith, British, Taurus

2014 Budapest, George Ezra, British, Gemini

2014, When The Beat Drops Out, Marlon Roudette, British/Vincentian, Capricorn
2014-15 Ed sheeran

2013-15 Take Me to Church, Irish, Pisces

2014 Hard Out Here, Lily Alle, British, Taurus

But also:
2014 Chandelier, Sia, Australian, Sagittarius
2014 Royals, Lorde, Zealand, Scorpio
as well as
All timber, about that bass, all of me, bang bang, blank space, Shake It Off, cool kids, happy, Sugar, dark horse, ...

My personal top 7 are:
1) Waves
2) Rather Be
3) Budapest
4) Prayer in C
5) Chandelier
6) I'm an Albatraoz
7) Timber

The power of marketing...

Most countries in the world have their own music market. Parallel to the global charting songs.

Also most natures are easier ready to listen to anglophone music than the other way.

You can only hear rays of these other music branches embedded in the successful pop songs. Like the oriental ray in Talk Dirty To Me by Jason Derulo.

But I think I've never heard a pop song mixed with Mongolian folklore music.

Ummm I thought south Korea was dominating (revenue wise)......There's more asian people in the world than any other nationality, so naturally they would listen to music sung by people they would identify with more.....I could be wrong but I have to admit K-pop sells the perfect asian dream so well its almost disgusting.

God I am over Sam smith's voice, he sounds like a crying baby....

I love Australian bands, I love music that is well written and has lyrics that make you think "how the fuck did that person think of that"...

My favourite song writers are Saggitarius atm SIA and Taylor Swift....I know I know!! I always hated on Taylor till the start of this month until I found out she wrote her own songs!!!!

And her latest single "style" has this awesome funky guitar and 80s feel to it, it has some sort of nostalgic soundscape attatched to it and the lyrics tell a simple story as well....not to mention the film clip is insane.

Yes, one of the good things about TS is that she writes&composes hers.

I listened to style. My vote goes so: Ellie Goulding is better.
