Okay, DXPnet, am I the only one that likes durian fruit? Surely I can't be the only one! Durian lovers, reveal thyselves!

Durian fruit is a south East Asian fruit, and it has rudely been dubbed the "smelliest fruit on the planet Earth." Harrumph! I actually like it! The spikey, slimy, thing.

My boyfriend absolutely HATES it. I ate a durian candy and he didn't want me near him until I brushed and used mouth wash.

We once went for a walk when he stopped in his tracks, sniffing the air vigirously. I asked him what was wrong, and he said he smelt something bad. He grabbed my purse and found durian candy stashed away, he reached his hand back and threw it so quickly away from us. "BABY. Really?? Please, stop with the durian!"

Poor guy. ‚ Anyone else like durian or have a food like that your lover absolutely despises?

I've never had durian but I like jackfruit and my boyfriend thinks it's weird. He's not a picky eater at all. He doesn't like dark chocolate either 😆
LOL, you will smell durian long after you've ingested it! I definitely recommend trying it at least once. Do it outdoors so you can hose off if you feel the need to.

It's interesting he doesn't like dark chocolate, but I can see how the bitterness can turn him off, lol. Your boyfriend should consider himself lucky because I'm sure jackfruit smells more attractive than durian fruit. I think I might have had the juice before, but I'll look for a fresh jackfruit to eat.

Yeah, I'm definitely more picky than my BF. I highly dislike white food like mayo, ranch dressing, yogurt, cows milk, cottage cheese, goat's cheese, whipped cream...I also despise 'shrooms. Because he's so understanding of my quirks and tries his best to respect them, I see no problem with avoiding durian while around him. It IS funny to see his repulsion, though, because not much else bothers him. ˆ

that is the most disgusting smelling food i have ever had the misfortune to smell. like smelly feet, dog shit, vomit and possibly a hint of rot all combined into one. *GAGGGS*

my ex loved it! wanted to smuggle some with him from thailand. no chance!

actually after that trip i was pretty much done.

on the other hand, i love fried chicken liver with onions.

to each their own?

LMAO @ smuggling durian fruit! BAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! I wonder how many relationships durian fruit has ended. I do love onions, but with a liver substitute.

You're description of durian fruit encompasses his dislike of it, but I strangely like the smell, lol.

Definitely to each his or her own. It takes all kinds to make a world. *^____^*

@Nemilicious It's the mustiness that I like. It's a warm, funky smell, but it's comforting to me.

My BF is serious about not liking it, though, so I will not forgo cuddles for durian. I love mango! But I'm allergic to the peel, so I have to eat the mango completely removed from the peel. #NicheAllergies

That fruit vendor had no idea what he unleashed when he cracked open that fruit. I wonder if durian is physically listed as one of those items not allowed at airports.

lol at funky smell 😄 indeed! never got to the musky part ....

yes, eat mangoes, they are much healthier for you! also, make your BF peel them for you!

yes, i think they are on a forbidden import/export list. can you imagine someone cracking a durian open during a long distance flight?! OMG hahahaha. hilarity ensues.

i am thinking the whole time of other fruits with a bad smell.....nothing comes to mind or even close. durian is unique that is for sure.

Durian is definitely unique. I do think they are high in calorie, so it would be a good fruit to consume while surviving out in the wilderness. Pineapple is by far my favorite fruit. But I honestly love all fruit, although I'm "meh"ish about kiwi. I think they look much cooler than they taste.

What does it taste like though?
Okay, my sensory perception must be completely out of whack because to me, it smells like a warm, slightly nutty buttermilk, which is neither pungent nor offensive. 😛

And it tastes exactly the way it smells (to me)... a creamy custard with a hint of nut and yogurt. My family used to eat it all the time when I was a kid. Back then, I'd thought most people liked it as much as we did.
