Eggs are a symbol of the new life that returns to nature at Easter time. The custom of exchanging eggs began long before Easter was celebrated.
It was a custom of the Egyptians and the Persians. They exchanged eggs decorated in spring colors. They believed Earth hatched from an egg
which contributed to the custom.
Rabbits symbolized new life and rebirth in ancient Egypt. They considered it a symbol of the moon, as the moon determines the date of Easter.

True.

Easter is traditionally a pagan holiday. It was a seasonal festival with connections to fertility.

The word Easter has roots in the term Eostre. Eostre is a Germanic Goddess whose symbols were hares and eggs.

The hares and eggs represent fertility; these are the few symbols that were able to survive the Christianization of the pagan holiday.

Yes the symbols were amended to make Christianity more popular when it was being introduced in Europe & the pagan festival periods were used for both Christmas and easter. It only seems to be based on this word in English speaking countries and germany. Eggs have been converted to a symbol for resurrection (new life etc).
