For those of you who have never felt an earthquake, a moderate 5.1 magnitude is about halfway up the magnitude scale.
The intensity of any earthquake varies with location. The further away from the epicenter, the lower the intensity.
Also, there are characteristic motion "shapes" to the earthquake that may also be different from where the observer
senses it. These shapes are "subjective" - For instance, I felt this quake make two distinct motions, at first, it had
a vertical reciprocating "up and down" motion, followed by a lateral SE/NW reciprocating "side to side" motion,
as the event subsided.

It probably lasted about 3-4 seconds from start to finish.

That's what I felt.
What someone else felt may have been more or less harsh than what I felt, depending on the geological properties
of the earth between the observer and the epicenter. as well as where they are, their body position (sitting, standing, prostrate, etc. -
and on what ie bed, couch, side chair, above ground wood floor or concrete floor etc)

To get a sense what some earthquakes might feel like, find a bridge with heavy traffic. in the car or on the sidewalk, you'll feel a sensation
that the bridge is moving.
Others feel like riding in a big rig (truck/lorry).

7+ is close. Try Landers.

Loma Prieta (8-15 sec)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Loma_Prieta_earthquake

Landers (2-3 min)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Landers_earthquake

Northridge (15-20 sec)

But that's not what wakes me up.
