But I have two jobs right now. Each job so far is only like 3-4 hour shifts. And each job i only get like 2-3 shifts a week. So I'm not making a lot of money. I have been offered another job who is promising about 30 hours a week. But my other jobs are quite recent, and I would feel guilty to quit them. Especially since it's a small town and people all know eachothers garbage. Its silly. Anyways, I'm not quite sure what to do. I know it seems a lot easier than what I'm making it sound.. I just don't know how to not make my other jobs mad at me if I quit.

You shouldn't give a rat's ass if they get mad if you quit. You don't owe them shit, especially since you're barely part time at both. They can't fault you for moving on to something that works better for you. Why won't they give you more hours?

Also, in regard to your state, check your labor laws and the like. Here, if they don't schedule you the minimum for part time weekly, you can actually file for unemployment. Watch how fast they give you more hours.

I've known a few people who did this when their employers were cheap fucks who barely gave them hours.

However, you do have to have worked for a minimum of 6 mos in order to even apply for unemployment, so yeah.

Anyone trying to pay bills will understand where you're coming from.

Don't feel guilty - that's exactly how life works...

If there was one thing I could go back in time and tell younger Wag, it's not to feel guilty bout going after better working conditions or fairer pay or more hours.

Businesses that offer sporadic shift work are like a mill, they just grind through employees anyway.

Research their company history and you might be surprised to discover they have a high turnover of staff...

So leap on steady hours and don't look back IMO

And don't be too apologetic, leave on a strong note and just express thanks for the opportunity and training they provided 😎

This is why I've stuck with serving for so long. We aren't slaves to hours. It's one thing I don't miss about some jobs- the heavy reliance on hours to make ends meet. At least with those jobs who don't pay much of a living wage...
Serving in Australia is way different. 😢 I served in Canada and it was awesome. Such easy money! But serving here is paid by the hour. But they do pay employees way better. Like 21 an hour if you're over the age of 21. Saturday's are 25, and Sunday's are 27 I think? I work at one sandwich shop and one waitressing gig. The job on offer is an irish pub. It would be a similar atmosphere to what I worked in canada. So I'm kind of pumped for it.

You're so right. Money is money, and you have to kind of cut emotions out of it. I just feel deceptive that they've newly trained me up and then I'm like, see ya later! I do need to just get over it though and work adult hours. I'm not a teenager anymore and three hour shifts don't cut it. ? thankyou for responding wagtail!

Yeah, I know. I'm glad I serve where I do because it's shit in other states here.

Good luck with the pub. Drunkards can be great tippers haha.

A few months ago, I had some chick ask if she could kiss me because I helped pick up something she'd dropped. The bartender asked for my help because we didn't want the poor bitch falling off those tall chairs.

"OH MY GAWD, THANK YOU SOO MUCH. HEERE. NOO, HEEERE, TAKE THIS!" *shoves a couple bucks into my hand." "THANK YOU SO MUCH. CAN I KISS YOU??"

No, that's okay. *walks off*

My manager asked what happened, since they were keeping an eye on her, and I told him. "Haha no shit??"

Negotiate with your current jobs to give you more hours and mention that you've been offered another job that can give you more hours. If they can't do it, they'll understand your situation, that's just the nature of trying to make ends meet. I'm sure they can find a replacement.

Earlier this year, I was working 3 jobs but they didn't pay much. I was offered 2 other jobs (luckily, both having to do with my career & field of study) later on in the year and it worked out perfectly. 2 of my former jobs were per project so I was able to leave with little commitment, 3rd job I liked but I needed to free up space in the week. I still keep in touch with people from those jobs and there's no hard feelings.

They are the best!!! I used to get old men who would give me twenty bucks for no reason at all.. other than just having a friendly chat. Vlt winners are always generous as well. It can severely back fire though, the drunk people thing. They can end up forgetting to pay and leave.. or they're super pissed and refuse to pay. I've had those issues before. Once a two hundred dollar walkout... I kept their receipt just in case they ever came back. Never did! ?
