I try not to judge how people choose to discipline their children since I don't have children of my own...

Again, I don't have children, I'm trying really hard not to be judgmental...but imo a more appropriate punishment would be to take her computer away, make her do extra chores/shit she hates doing, ground her, etc.

I was spanked with a belt myself when I was younger. It's also really hard to be judgmental about this; I don't have children of my own and I experienced the same kind of punishment when I was a child. However, two things are obviously different.

Also I've grown up in a culture where physical punishment is common, meaning occasional slam on the butt or in worst case a slap across the face. I can't say I have seen any emotional scars from this upbringing when compared to how children are brought up in cultures that don't believe in physical punishment. No difference at all. If it's done right (and in this case it wasn't) I don't see the harm.

Some kids are problematic and some kids are angels and some kids need light discipline and some kids are extreme and act like seeds of the devil and some kids are obstinate and beyond hard headed and just can't be reasoned with no matter how many times the child is warned, every child needs specific discipline in different ways, there are kids that respond to sitting in the corner or home bound punishment for a few days or weeks positively and not much else discipline is required but then there are children that are beyond out of control and need harsher types of punishment.
IMO had she did what he told her to do "get on the bed and turn over" the spanking probably wouldn't have escalated like that, she sort of brought it on herself just like he said. I won't get into parenting and how parents should rear his/her own child but what I will say is that too many kids are in the penal system because there was no discipline in the home, some homes expect the schools and everyone else to raise their own child and if not the parent falls short of doing the parenting themselves and a lot of those kids (not all of course) end up in the system.
I don't think he should be reprimanded for what he did, spare the rod spoil the child.
