For those who use it (whether you're non black & have friends who are black or not), you have a FAIR point in that you don't understand why some blacks use the N word to eachother & yet get defensive when others say it

BUT, here's a question no one ever wants to answer: Why is it that it's bothering you SO bad that you can't say it?

If you really think about it, it's so silly.

Women call eachother the B word b/c to some, it's a term of endearment. How silly would a man look actually complaining about the fact that he can't call me the B word, when yet he can call me every thing else in the English dictionary

How silly would I look if I got mad at gay people for calling eachother "F*gs" just b/c I can't say it!?

And let's be real, why would a person whose not black need to say the N word? You're right in that it's silly for blacks to use the N word OR even to get mad when other races wanna use it but it's MORE silly for non-african americans to fight for the right to use a word that doesn't even apply to them!

Yeah right like a white or asian person calling me the N word would be coming from a place of love and/or endearment!

Oh please! Be real!

I wish a bitch would try to call me "bitch" like it's a term of endearment. LOL If a chick calls me a bitch, she better mean it, because those are fighting words in my opinion. My friends know better than to call me a bitch.. anyone who knows me knows how I feel about that.

I don't call my female friends bitch and I definitely don't use the N word. I think both are retarded words to use, but don't really care if other people use them just as long as they don't call ME a bitch, then we're all good. Just my personal preference.

And it really is just a word but for white people to use it is kinda weird.
The only white people who can use it is the ones that are born in those neighborhoods like Harlem, BX, Brooklyn, etc..
Other than that. If I see a white preppy lookin guy using it in a mocking context then it's disrespectful.

You people might find this funny because all y'all do is laugh, but there's a new video game that's coming out
(360, PS3, PC)
The game is called "Slavery". And the point of the game is to buy and sell slaves like they're crack.
I know it's just a game and I wouldn't play it because it looks like a Age of Empire ripoff.
But that's crossing the line.

Don't think it's a real game, though. HUGE financial risk. No sane videogame publisher would make it happen.

What does oivy mean?

Nah, it's just an expression of embarassment (in my case amused embarrassment due to my Fail humour and your funny reply).

I probably spelt it wrong.

Big step, though. You normally avoid these threads.

Hahaha. Yeah I know, but it's not heated at the moment...
If the shit hits the fan again... I'm out!

Ugh. I think I'll follow your lead because threads like this suck balls.

Everyone is well meaning, defensive and racist all at the same time - it's dizzying.

So it might hit the fan in a couple of hours.

Unless... me and you work our magic!

I'll start: TACO FLAVOURED SPERM!

There is more talk about race on DXP than I ever encounter in my day to day life and I'm black, I work in an office where I am one of two blacks employed there, and I live in the South. What is the fascination with it here?

And the N word would maybe have been put to rest by now if blacks hadn't decided they would "embrace" it, as some would say, and use it every chance they get. I just wish the damn thing would go away. I'm tired of hearing it, and I'm tired of talking about it, I'm tired of being looked to for an explanation on why we use it but take offense when someone of another race uses it. It's disrespectful no matter who says it and to whom they say it to. As creative as black folks are can't they come up with another word to take it's place? How about we substitute it with "fool". Cause fools are the only ones who really want to use that word anyway.

As often as you hear it in music, you really can't blame anyone for thinking it's acceptable to use. People really believe it's a term of endearment now. It's just ridiculous.

My thoughts pretty much.

No one ever made "cracker" and "wetback" a term of endearment. Am I the only one who feels like if you just walked up to someone and said, "Sup cracker," that's pretty derogatory (albeit, a little funny). I mean, it's all gotta be a one way street man. But it'll be a long time before black people stop the "nigga" nonsense.

if you said that to me, i would probably laugh...

in reality, i would prefer that you refer to me as peckerwood though..

First part, true.

Second part, peckerwood it is.

if anyone of any race calls ME that word they better brace theselves for a punch. if people of any race want to call jt eachother i'll leave the other idiots to it. If someone is telling me a story and refers to anybody as an N i politely tell them the word is not in my vocabulary and ask them to elaborate or try another word! apparently black people want to own the word but i sure as hell want no part in this ownership!! but what about song lyrics?? do white people have to stop singing if the N word crops up— there should be some sort of rule book haha

Krys, you've out-dumb-assed yourself this time.

To say the N word is the same thing as saying nigger .. no difference, and yet you act like to say the N word is acceptable in this this, as if it replaces the word nigger.

In terms of communication, people "say" "words" to each other, in which these words evoke images in the mind as a point of reference, so that the two people talking can relate back and forth.

If these people said letters to insinuate the actual words, the person they are saying it to - gets the image in their mind, and this image means the same goddamn thing ... you're not much of a writer if you cannot even grasp this concept.

If I said ..... fuck you B ... would you think I was implying ... fuck you bread

To say N word ~ puts the same goddamn image in the brain as nigger, and you're too stupid to get that .. you actually think that it's acceptable to say "N" word, because it has a different meaning?

If the word nigger is offensive then so is the "N word" because it's meaning the same goddamn thing.

The N word is NOT the only double standard or word 1 group may use for endearment while another group may use it for the opposite

I think it's utterly impossible for someone whose not black to claim to be using the N word as a term of endearment! Let's be real

It's like the B word. 2 women can call each other B's as a term of endearment but yet if someone outside of the circle (male or female) says the B word, it means something completely different & could be fighting terms!

Same goes with the word "F*g." Gay people may call eachother that b/c it's a word of comfort within the gay community. But I'm not gay, so how dare I get upset & try fighting for the right to use that word. There's literally 1 trillion other words in the english dictionary I could think of to call them except that word.

It urks me when someone non-black says, "Well if they can say it why can't I?"

Well if all black people jumped off bridges tomorrow, would you? That's what I thought!

If you want the truth of matters my daughter is part black, that word was not allowed in my home. Out of respect to her, her Grandmother and father. I related the story some time ago back about admiring a little ones braids in her stroller, her mother white, her father black. She was such a beautiful girl, I'm sure she's a beautiful young woman now, the same as my daughter. In any event, the woman next to me was going on and on about her shock and appalled being on the matter, and this Bull turned to ice. What she in her ignorance was waxing on about based on appearance alone, because she PERCEIVED my baby as white, that I myself am ( i.e. we were 'safe' to spout her nonsense too ) offended me. If that word was used I'd have walked off.
