The other night I was talking to some people and I remembered this girl that went to school with my brother. She is pretty talented singer but got screwed by the first record company she had recorded with. The company basically stole her songs and her rights because the songs as far as I know were not copyrighted at the time so... I thought I would post some of her music up here since I found her on youtube. Just giving her some love and maybe if you like her you'll buy some of her shit on itunes or w/e.

I have that demo or what I believe to be that demo.. I don't know all the details about it... my brother does. But what I thought was funny is I had started listen to this chick's CD more than my other stuff and I didn't even know her! Just some random girl my brother new from school who he performed with. I think she really has some great creativity.. in writing songs. I mean it is all guitar based half the time because she plays the guitar but on that CD things were a lot more studio formatted with all kinds of background music. Like the last song on that list I posted earlier.. the one called "Always Need You" that song sounds like an R&B song on the album.

Fine print--every contract comes with some and it should always be methodically scrutinized before a pen ever touches the paper. Unfortunately creative people get screwed a lot in this world. Deals like this occur everywhere, the music industry, publishing, and sometimes even art brokerages. They basically buy the rights to the artist's work against a point system in sales--notoriously leaving the artist responsible for many of the start up and PR costs--and then leave themselves ways out of the contract. It's a pretty hard case to sue for that and she would likely end up spending more in legal costs than she would earn back for damages.

I'm sorry that this girl was abused like that. She is very talented and I look forward to listening to more of her work.

Yep, people are kind of stupid, don't feel too bad for her...
