TORNADOES-- Midwest

I just read an article about the tornadoes that hit the Midwest, yesterday.

Indiana and Illinois were hit the worst, though it affected Ohio, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin.

Have any of you ever been caught near a tornado, or had to seek immediate shelter?

Do you have a plan of action in place already?

What if you don't have a basement? Or does everyone have a basement?

I cannot believe how close these people got to this tornado (Minooka, Illinois).

I survived a direct from a tornado in 2004 (I'm in Indiana).

I'm still dealing with some mild PTSD from it. Storms still terrify me. I purposely moved into a house with a basement. I have a Rubbermaid tub full of emergency supplies in the basement...etc etc.

Oh God -- I don't blame you a bit-- and personally, I would have been a wreck... nothing mild.

I was in Ohio last month (job prospect), but I was right on the border of Indiana.

Reading things like this make me kind of glad I decided not to stay-- we have hurricanes where I live, but still-- you have days, not minutes to prepare.

They had a tornado siren test once while I was there, but no one told me about them-- had no idea where the noise was coming from-- thought the window a/c was trying to explode or something lol.

But tbh, idk if I would have known what the hell to do-- I'd like to think I would have, though.

Thanks 🙂

If you don't have a basement, you go to the innermost part of the house or building...like a bathroom.

That's exactly what we do if we have a hurricane.

Most people evacuate, but sometimes-- if it's been a long time since the last we got flattened-- people will ride them out.

Foolish, yes-- but I know plenty of people who have done it.

One lady I know ended up in the bathroom with her kids and ex-husband for the duration of Andrew-- she said they could hear the windows breaking in the room right next to them.
