I don't understand everyone's hate for the news..

If you watch/read all of the news sources (left and right), use a bit of common sense and moral standing, you can fill in the blanks and make an informed decision.
I usually try to read overseas English-language sites like BBC news as well as US news. Then compare.

I think more people should begin doing what they did in the old Soviet Union-I remember reading that the Russians became skilled at figuring out what was going on by paying attention to what was not being told to them by their media, aka reading between the lines.

I honestly think it's gotten to the point where anyone is better off reading the Daily Mail than the Guardian.

That paper has sold itself out to becoming clickbait trash, which is fine if they weren't so pretentiously highbrow about it.

At least the Daily Mail is pretty open about the fact they're just their to publish for the lulz
The high brow pretentiousness makes me laugh.

I get a lot of Daily Mail from people in my news feed. Ugh.

Yeah. All the focus on one issue....a different more important issue takes place in silence somewhere else.

The local news-- I thought this was what we were talking about.

As for the rest... I think the majority is utterly contrived.
The local news is here in the south is rather biased. They pick and choose what stories they want to feed you and put their spin on it in the process.

At least with major news networks, you get to see a debate between guests. I guess I just enjoy watching people debate. They more opinions/perspectives I can witness, the more able I am to form my own opinion on the subject.

I get that.

I'm in the south too and the only thing on our local news

seems to be murder, or some other kind of death-- or the

latest imminent threat that will surely cause death.

I took a class taught by a cop (I know I've mentioned this before)

and he said the murder rate hasn't increased, but the (selective)

coverage has.

As you said... you hear what they want you to hear.

I don't hate the news...I obviously stay up to date on current events...I always know what's going on....but I read it instead because a lot of the broadcasts just stress me out the way they present shit. You walk in to a room with the news on a tv and you can't help but walk over and see "what's going on"

It's so dramatic and the energy of it is so intense and high strung
