I didn't see the movie. I only read the first book. I'm not sure what people are comparing about. What did they expect? Jane Austenesque level of writing? The book served its purpose perfectly: popcorn literary pornography. I think that most people that try to overanalyze and intellectualize their criticism of the book are trying to coverup the fact that they read the book in feigned indignance.
Gem wants me to watch it.

The book didnāt serves its purpose, imo. Aināt nobody expecting Jane Austen outta these books, but if people wanted to maintain an intellectual āimageā, they wouldnāt even bother to admit having read them.
Letās be honest, who picked up that book (or watched the movie) without the expectation of raunchy sex, particularly in the dom/sub fashion?
I went in with the expectation of a lot of fluff as well, as far as story and writing style, so thatās not my gripe. But with all the fucking hype, I expected more as far as the dom/sub stuff went. Other than that, I had zero expectations from it.
Still waiting for the 50 Shades of Gay pr0n spoof.
