The kick-snare. The lyricism. The gulliness. Please post.

this Libra had a brain aneurysm in 2010 that permanently distorted his speech at the height of his underground fame...love most of his catalog though...Blue Sky Black Death and 4th Disciple do a lot of his production....

very sad...so many of my favorite emcees from this my favorite era of hip hop have some sort of tragedy that derails their career....his solo projects prior are really good though...will have to do a little tribute post to him with some of my picks off those albums....
this is off his 3rd with Kweli (another Libra) and DOOM...love this beat and I think he has the best verse of the 3 on here:
thx for making this thread btw...been waitin' on it lol...click to expand

Ursa where you get your music 😶
Anytime I listen to something I like, I do a lot of exploring; I just love music. I'll look it up on Google, I'll go to record stores, & I'll check out local shows. I used to list a lot of songs, make tons of mixtapes & CDs back in the day, and I do have the benefit of having a lot of friends who are just as into music, if not even more than I. I can't do certain things without it. I can't even type out this post without having something playing in the background (right now it's: "(I Love You) for Sentimental Reasons" by Nat King Cole
)
Growing up, my parents played a lot of soul & dusties, my grandfather would play big band & crooner pop, my sister was really into synthpop & new wave, and I had a lot of uncles & cousins who were hip-hop & house DJs. My cousins would take me to record stores to dig crates & we'd listen to a lot of random genres just for inspiration + I'd copy a lot of their mixtapes. I'd study while listening to classical music. My aunt used to work for Illinois Bell (which became Ameritech then got bought out by AT&T) so her phone bill was virtually nonexistent and I'd take advantage of that by constantly ordering from The Box (which got me into a lot of grunge, alternative rock, & underground hip-hop). I got into world music & new age from the International Channel, samples on Microsoft Encarta, and those Pure Moods infomercials.
I have a lot of musician friends and I try to go to their shows + I was a stylist for some of their music videos & promotional media.
I like your posts, especially oldies.
That's amazing. Maybe your life was also music in the past life 😂
I'm going to check out some of the stuff you just mentioned.
I need smooth, upbeat oldies

Thank you, I'm glad you like them and I'm more than happy to share as well!
It's funny that you mentioned that because I hated playing piano when I was younger and I played a little bass a little over a decade ago but I wasn't very good at it. I really liked DJing & producing tracks though, but I'd always pass off samples & sampling ideas to friends who could do it much better.
I fiddled with djing and I had it om soundcloud for a short time 😂. I played around with vinyls which are so much fun to scratch but it was a hit or miss. I used to do it for fun for a small crowd at a bar but I was more of the filler in-between (my ex dj'd for the most part).
I kind of miss it.click to expand

Damn @Metatron, first you post Common, then Blu, then Earl Sweatshirt. You know exactly what I like.
