In synastry there are much more important factors than just sign placements. These are what you want to look for:

1. North or South Node of the moon contacts. South Node isn't typically very conducive to long-term stability, they generally signify that you guys have some karma to work through together and will then part ways. But not always. We are incredibly drawn like moths to flames the people that have planets or angles on our South Node.

North Node implies that this person will help us grow in THIS lifetime.

There's also a rumor that squares to the North and South Node can indicate marriage potential.

2. Angle contacts. Especially when your angles contact one another, AC/IC or AC/DC are most potent for romance. I've experienced the AC/IC before, but my current partner and I have AC/AC and rather than feeling dramatic it's a sweet flowing river of consistency.

Also planets touching each other's angles are indicative of a good relationship, especially Jupiter/AC, or planets on the IC or DC.

3. Aspects from Saturn act like glue for people.

And it's true, all my long term relationships have had all of these to varying degrees, it didn't matter if our sun or moon signs would be considered incompatible.

Also, it really comes down to maturity! You can have great North Node contacts, Saturn glue, and angle contacts, but if both people aren't mature it won't be a happy or healthy relationship. Maturity goes a looooooong way.
