When I go without it, it's usually because I've been hurt and am focusing on healing, becoming a better person, and just don't want to have anything to do with romance and the opposite sex. I've had to practice protecting myself from deep hurts so that I avoid hiding from men for such a long time. It's a balancing act...being open to love, but retaining exclusive rights to self validation.
