Hey 🙂

For my final project this year I was assigned to design a Buddhist shrine/temple/worship place.

Anyone here practice Buddhism?
Any advice/ any ideas for specific things that should be present?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have already researched, just looking to hear directly from some practicing Buddhists what's important to you in a temple/meditation space.

Ohh! my friend who's a hardcore Buddhist from Myanmar(Burma) and I have had some long convo's lately on Buddism and philosophy in general, he even has a huge pic in his room of a big Buddhist temple he used to visit, Im going to ask him about that one too!

Trust me, this guy is one of the most special people Ive met in my life. Probably the most selfless and generous person Ive ever met.

I wouldnt call myself a Buddhist but I have visited some in various parts of world.
I think the key here is space - and no clutter. Wide open entrances and the statue (if you're having to put them there) needs to be the focal.
You can actually incorporate elements from various religions - the staunch Buddhist temples of old aren't very much inspiring. Hope it helps a little 🙂

Thanks!

Yeah I ended up doing a centralized floorplan where the the actual shrine/meditation room is in the center with all other rooms radiating off of it. Also, really wide corridors...like 11 FT wide...and varying ceiling heights which are backlit so it looks like they are glowing if you can picture that.

🙂

I'll post pictures of my final model when I finish it...the cardboard study model doesn't get the point across as well with masking tape everywhere 😛

Here's a view inside my shrine in my study model. I will post more in a little while...still uploading. 🙂

We do black and white only presentation models, so it does not reflect actual surface colors or textures...we show that through perspectives and elevations...but you can get the general idea. 🙂

the little bit of orange you see at the top is supposed to represent saffron colored (the color of the Buddha) fabric draped from the ceiling...and the back wall is a water wall in case that isn't obvious
