Help...I'm a bridesmaid...
....well it's not that bad, but....eh. Looks a little hard. Perhaps that is what she is going for?

Her original idea was 'romantic'... I guess she means Mills & Boon 90's boudoir romance??
it's not that bad its just a little- hmmm- base? matchy-matchy? OTT? loud?
And- the bridal party is
B & G
4x bridesmaids
4x flowergirls
3x groomsmen
3x pageboys
now this is a pretty massive wedding party for NZ! Usually they are about 8 in total!!!
A whole lot of red, black and white!
Up until you mention how big it was, I thought it wasn't that big of a deal.
Weddings gonna look like a killer massacre.
But at least you will look good. I think you could pull of most dresses!
Yeah, it's too much red and this is coming from someone that loves red. I just think it's a little harsh for a wedding. Leave red for a naughty romp and just have tiny splashes of it in the wedding (e.g. red nails, simple red flower tying her hair back, etc....)
Unless that is what she s going for....sort of Bram Stoker/Anne Rice-esk

@whatu- these are just ideas at this stage... But you can see the general theme, but ta! I'll certainly try to scrub up well no matter what.
And that's a nice way to think about it frost! It's very much my friend- and we definitely tease each other about our very different tastes... But you would think after nearly 20 years some of my impeccable taste would've rubbed off?! 😛

Totally agree. Just suck it up and deal with it.
I had to be in a wedding years back and wear a burgundy gown. It was totally not my style at all. Totally not wearable ever again but it was my friends wedding and I never said anything about it. Actually we just met her one day and she told us this is what she picked, we got fitted and ordered dresses.
I've asked my sister (Leo) and the Scorps sister (cancer) to be in our wedding. The Leo is already driving me crazy with her ideas. Lol. I'm just like chill out, I'll tell you what to wear. No need to worry.
There are some elements in the idea list that would pull off as sassy and sophisticated (like the white dress with black lace accent) but most of it is a little too garish. Hopefully her final choices will pull it together in a truly lovely way. If done right it could be stunning. If done wrong (and I've seen the red theme done totally WRONG) it could be gross.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Better for it to be non-boring! 🙂 I love red and black.
But then again fiance and I are planning to skip the huge wedding and just have a small ceremony with our immediate family because weddings sound too stressful. I have no idea what's "proper" for wedding...nor do I have any damns to give. 😛
Hopefully ur friend's wedding will have an open bar, see it's not so bad after all! 😄

Ok-- the good news is the shape of the bodice is fantastic-- you will look fabulous and it won't be totally uncomfortable.
I've had to wear green velvet and the way the dress was style d, I couldn't even lift my arms up.
And generic burgundy-- that dress had these cris-cross in the back straps that did nothing for the front-- ugh.
I see Nem's post up there (she's right), but I have such a hard time with things like this.
I bowed out of standing in anyone else's wedding, and when I did the deal-- I just had my bff stand and told her to go pick out what she wanted in (haha) dark red-- she did great.

oh, I love my friend to pieces (hehe- she is a pisces 😄) but even so I want her to look back on the wedding day and think 'classy'! As well as 'oh, love him' and 'great day' and all the other fluff 😆
luckily we are a wee way off (actually a year!) and there are no absolutes yet...
The latest is that she is off the red wedding dress idea (phew!), and leaning towards the BM's having a black cocktail dress (yay!!!)
Second point; has anyone been to a wedding that all the wedding party except the bride (white) and flowergirls (white, red) were in black? Was it Addams Family/ funereal/ gloomy?
If I didn't know her better I would be guessing that some of her pin ideas so far were a bloody wind up!
p.s. haha Tiz- I absolutely have this stuck in my head... I wore a red lace dress to work even 😉 enjoy peeps

I have, and iirc it was elegant.
I want to say there was white offsetting the black, though-- like a sash or something.

traditionally the bridesmaids were also to act as decoys in case some rascally rapscallion swooped in on the day and tried to abduct the blushing bride.

Also, someone has to manage the long train dragging behind the bride and has anyone even considered what it takes to go to the bathroom wearing a bridal gown? Helpers are never to be under valued.

The cream dress (above) was a suggestion for the bride/ wedding dress... and the black for the bridesmaids.
Bridesmaids are apparently in either red or black.
She (the bride) is on a pretty tight budget so I think the idea of an embellished belt is genius! And that way if the dress is pretty simple I guess it can be re-used?!
That's why I liked the black one above- I think you could get a lot of wear out of it... and it was on sale for $ 65 NZD- absolute steal!
You've actually reminded me of an outfit on etsy who makes the most gorgeous crystal and lace belts so I'll send the bride those details!
You would think that as her second wedding it would be nice and low key...?! 😄
