I just realizing that living a life where I could post music and travel around the world and make my own hours and work on my own terms offered me more freedom than a life as a lawyer or any other profession in the so called straight world.

So I left last year and haven't looked back since.

The quality of life in europe is much better than in the states and it's expensive here, but hey. A good quality of life costs..

I've been a musician for almost 18 years and I realized that living a life where I just play music and entertain ppl while traveling all over the world and working/playing on my own terms is a lot better than the life of a backstabbing lawyer or any other profession in the "straight" world.

I have a perfect work- life balance now and that's something that any intelligent person strives for. So I guess you can say I got off the grid and unplugged myself from that matrix which is Washington DC.

I'm much better off here..

My gf by the way isn't exactly new. I met her last year while she was visiting DC ( she's Danish) and we hit it off instantly.. I visited her in Denmark and even spent last Christmas with her there and even met her family. They're quite nice.

When I moved to Spain, she came to live with me while she takes time off before she begins university in Denmark in august. When I left Spain a few months ago, she came with me and we've been here in pars ever since..

Do we've actually been dating a little over a year..

The instrument I play is called the steel pan. I play a pan called the tenor pan.. although it's called the tenor, the name is misleading because it's reallyin the soprano range and in a steel orchestra, the tenor pan is used toplay the lead.

Although I have been in my share of bands, I choose to be a soloist because of the freedom and flexibility being a soloist offers.

Plus, I think my music geared more towards the classical, baroque and operatic repertoires than traditional steel pan music like calypso and jazz.. Butof course play that kind of music as well, but I generally prefer playing classical, baroque And operatic pieces..

It's just so unusual for my intrument, but there's a lot of shock valuein it which allows me to make more money.

And you play a nice variety of classical intruments!

I must say though that the steel pan goes well with all classical instruments even though it's not a classical instrument itself..

Since you plAy allthose classicalinstrumentS, I hope have some mozart and Handel in your repertoire!

You seem to know your music and have a definite identity as a musician.. You seem to have found your " voice" as a musician and that's good.

As far as ludwig van, I could never really dig his material.. I mean I appreciate his work, of course but he seemed to produce more noteworthy material as he got more and more mentally ill..

Sometimes I wonder with Beethoven if it's the music or the madness..

But Mozart was definitely the greatest classical composer of all ( to me at least) because he defined much of what is now known as the classical era with his music, while straying and ignoring the use of counterpoints, which were the defining devices of the baroque era. Mozart was an innovator and a pioneer because he too the music in a brand new direction.

Plus he was such a prolific composer with a huge body of timeless works. He also composed some great operas like don giovanni, le nozze de figaro, the mGic flute, to name a few. Beethoven was not nearly a prolific a composer as Mozart, opera or otherwise..

But of course I am sure debates like this will continue for as long as there are people on eArth.. Just like the Bach vs. Handel debate..

That's the beAutiful thing about music. It appeals to something deep in all of us in similar, yet strangely different wAys.

But is Ludwig van a genius?

Of course.

Did he compose great music that is timeless?

No doubt. We both can agree on thAt.


And the fact that you play so much of bachs music is impressive because a lot of his works are extremely difficult to play. I mean, Bach took the counterpoint to another level.. Good for you.

I don't know if you play any of the bradenburg concierto pieces but they are fabulous even though they were written for the harpsichord. I'm sure you could manage that on the piano if you already aren't!

And yes, I tour all over Europe. I've played in Spain, Denmark, germany and France.. But Paris so far has been the best.. Paris is really a magical city if you're an artiste and if provides a lot of artistic inspiration.
