You probably don't know half the stuff he's done in his life, he was connected to the camorra, accused of drug selling, pimping and losing games because of the camorra wanting his team to. He would be less fascinating if it wasn't for all those things. He is one of those guys who say what he thinks and who challenges the powers (he once argued with the pope, why the Vatican doesn't sell their gold domes in order too feed the poor instead of just praying and getting donations).
He acts like an idiot at times but I definitely prefere him over boring guys like Messi or Cristina 7, not only when it comes to football
