along the way to 10 yo, this child was very difficult - it is said that the child had
been very difficult for the mother to deal with.

At the age of 13, same child, a girl, screamed all the time.

Sexually, the same child engaged in promiscuity at an early age - example: sleeping with a best gff's love interest
then sleeping with his best friend.

Toddlers that scratch and bite themselves. Why?
When you bite yourself, you feel pain. When you feel pain you get attention.

At 4 years old I'd think this child needs a different outlet that

1. Supplies them with adequate attention and self worth
2. Wears them out so they don't want to feel pain any more.

But that's my sideways aunt outlook and I'm in no way a professional on the matter.

I think kids axt out in way we try to complicate when in fact, its all simple.

There are kids that bite and kick others, then there are kids that bite themselves.
This young girl had already attempted suicide after her baby was born.

She had been kicked out of the house because she simply would not show her mother respect
and had been extremely argumentative with her mother prior to the ouster.

Her mother had been a meth user but I am unsure whether past meth use would affect one child but not the other.

Things that should alarm more so are, a grown child at 6-9 messing in their pants, that is a known direct cause of sexual child abuse .

What you explained is different.

When does the 4 year old bite themself?

Do you notice a pattern of the times it occurs or any correlation to the behavior and their surroundings?
The young girl is now grown, but what I know is that she doesn't like people, keeps to herself, alot. Her child is with it's father and his wife.
She sees her child occasionally.

To my knowledge, she only smokes pot on the extreme, nothing heavier than that.

I thought this was your child and you were asking about her current behavior.

Perhaps her behavior was not caught in time.

I feel like this is some in depth case study stuff. Why do you ask? Who is she to you?
Reasons why I ask are not of any importance to anyone here. I am trying to help someone.

I've seen nothing but a squillion questions about scorpios, sex and other recreational stupidity but NEVER anything
on the more intellectual level.

Depends on the situation, the type of self harm, etc. For instance, and I still do this to a certain degree, when I was in grade school and upset enough to cry I would dig my nails into my arms or ribs as a distraction so I wouldn't cry. I generally HATE showing others if I'm vulnerable, and would rather suck up the crying rather than let them know they had hurt me.

Then you have kids who self harm to get attention. My niece does this, and even went so far as to bite herself hard enough to leave marks, and then tried to blame my son (I witnessed this, and she wasn't aware, so I called her out on it).

There's also the kids who have been severely abused (physical, sexual, etc), and they self harm in an attempt to drain their mental pain via a physical outlet.

Also, there's mental problems that could attribute to self harm. So, unless one looks at each case it's hard to pinpoint the why from a very broad base.
